Coming from a Galaxy S8, I considered getting an iPhone 13, but since it comes with an OLED, is there a large risk of screen burn in? I don't have any problems with my Samsung, but I know the OLED on an iPhone is different than an AMOLED screen on Galaxy S phones. Should I be good with the 13?

I’ve never seen an iPhone OLED screen with burn in artifacts except display models at the store - no evidence of one anywhere on the internet either. The store display models of previous iPhones may have been experiencing temporary image retention and not permanent burn in.
Bottom line: burn in is not an issue at all on OLED iPhones

Never had an issue. Keeping auto brightness on will prevent most problems if you have any concern

I've seen OLED burn-in on Samsung phones that coworkers had in the last 2-3 years- that was after he had the phone for maybe a year or two.

I have not seen nor heard of this at all in iPhones, though.

I've had an S5 for 7 years and an S8 for 2 years. No noticeable burn in.
Good to hear! My colleague had a Note, I don't remember which version it was- but he'd only had it for a year and a half or so- and I remember him showing me things on it, and when he had mostly white screens open, you could clearly see the shadows of other things- banners from video sites he'd frequent, for example. It was pretty bad- but his use case may have been unique in that he'd set the phone at his desk and have videos playing for hours at a time- news videos- so he probably had more static objects on the screen for long periods than most people would.

I developed slight burn in on my XS Max after 2 years, nothing horrific and seemed to be with the green phone and iMessage icons only.

No issues with the 12 Pro Max in the 10 months I had that.

I was thinking about buying an XS Max instead of the 13 to save a few hundred dollars. This concerns me.

My XS was an OLED, I used it for 3 years with auto-brightness off and the brightness cranked up pretty high (I like a bright screen). Never had even the slightest hint of burn-in on it. My wife is still using her XS Max, she has the brightness up high also and is on her phone almost nonstop all day long. No burn-in on hers either.

Thanks for the response! What phone do you use today?

How are you liking it?
Very happy with it. Great battery life, much better camera than the XS (Macro and Night Mode are huge improvements), and the form factor is perfect for me. Only adjustment I'm having to make is getting used to how I grip it because of the much larger camera array on the back.
