Thanks for all the good wishes. OK, photos will have to come later, for the next few days you'll have to pry me off my lappy with the jaws of life...
First thing I did is perform some checks of known problems... I have 2 of them that I can tell right away...
. One, the battery is not perfectly flat, and the compartment door sticks out slightly on one side (is not flush with the bottom). Second, the space bar key is not situated correctly, it sticks up more on the right side (looking at the bar from the perspective of the latch). Oh, well, these are not major problems, I can live with them. I also used PiXel Check to check for bad pixels - I have none, plus my screen has even illumination across the whole surface.
It seems a bit slow to start up, about 115 seconds to reach desktop from a cold start (I wrote a post on that in another forum - Mac Basics and Help). Maybe this will get better with time, or maybe this is normal for my iBook (my cr*ppy Dull Inspiron 1100 with XP Home takes "only" about 45 seconds). In any case, a 1GB stick of RAM is on its way, maybe that'll help speed up the startup.
Setup was a breeze. I'm loving it. So far I'm browsing with Safari. Already I feel like my hands are tied behind my back, there are so many options missing - I use a tricked out Firefox 1.5 with the Google Toolbar on my Dull laptop. However, rather than immediately download the FF for Mac, I'm going to give Safari time - to learn how to best work it, to unlearn Windows habits, to optimize it... generally live with it, before thinking of the FF again.
I have millions of questions, but I guess this is not the forum for it. Plus, I don't want to be the guy always asking for free fish. I want to learn to fish myself, first do my own due diligence, google for stuff, read, and only if I'm stuck, ask humbly for help, in the right forum (Mac Basics and Help).
OK, I'll shut up now, and go back to heaven (i.e. my iBook)
Oh, and in answer to the question about shipping... I ordered the iBook first thing in the morning of dec. 16 (Friday) about 1:40 AM, when the great Amazon deal appeared. I chose FREE shipping. At the time of my order, Amazon estimated I'll get the iBook either dec. 22 or dec. 23. Amazon sent me an email dec. 19 (Monday), around 7:00 PM that the iBook shipped. UPS showed only that they received billing information. Now, my order on Amazon showed estimated time of delivery as dec. 23. In fact, I received it late afternoon, dec. 21. All the while, even after I received it, UPS online was showing only that they "received billing information".
