Omg Please Help!!!!! Newbie

Ok so i just got a iphone off a friend, i put my cincinnati bell SIM CARD into the phone. i am trying to get apps, get online, blah blah and it is saying.. can not be connected. you r not subscribed to a celluar date service. I had a nokia 5300 and i had the unlimitied internet, could get on you tube, myspace, ALL LINKS.. so why is it telling me i cant get on it???

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The iPhone is for AT&T only, it won't work on Bell unless you unlock it. You can find information about unlocking here. But if your iPhone has iPhone OS 3.1 or better there is no unlock yet.

the phone is already unlocked and jailbroken
 
it says.

could not activate cellular data network; you are not subscribed to a cellular data service

but with my blackberry and nokia 5300 they have internet thru cincinnati bell i didnt not change my service or plan.. so why wont it let me get online with the iphone?
 
Does the iPhone work to make phone calls? If so, you just need to install a carrier update file that will configure the iPhone to use data.

Open terminal on your Mac and run this command:

Run this command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Now download the 6.0 carrier update file from HERE.

In iTunes hit option and then update and browse to where you have this file downloaded from above, It will upload it the iPhone.

On the iPhone, go to settings, General / Network / Cellular Data Network
enter the following below. You will need to change what's already there because it has info for AT&T in it now.

APN-wap.gocbw.com
Username-
Password-

MMS:
APN-wap.gocbw.com
Username-CBW MMS
Password-
MMSC-http://mms.gocbw.com:808/mms
MMS Proxy-216.68.79.202:80
MMS Max Message Size-
MMS UA Prof URL-


Turn the iPhone off, then back on and it should work to allow data so you can download stuff.

and at the buttom says reset settings... do i do that?
 
You need to provide more info about the phone...

Start with:

What iPhone do you have?

What version is on it? 3.0? 3.0.1? 3.1?

What method was used for the jailbreak?

How have you confirmed that it is unlocked?

Is Cydia or Icy on the phone?

Does it work on your friends network plan? Is that the same network as yours?
 
okay i restarted it... didnt do anything

the back of the phone is silver is that helps lol

but i do know that the internet worked for him and he also had cincinnati bell

What firmware version? Go to settings / general / about and tell us what version it is on.
 
do you see

a App called Cydia and ask your friend if it's JB & unlocked 2 different things. JB allows you to use other stores or Apps besides itunes Cydia, ICE & Rock and allows you to personalize your phone. Unlock allows you too use your phone on other networks that use sims other wise you are locked into AT&T 1st you JB then you unlock. they are two separate processes. what Gen is it your friend should know.
 
yeah i know its 2 different things. its both, jailbroken and unlocked. He was using the same carrier as i am.i can text and call ppl so i know that the phone works. it just does not allow me to get apps, get online, or email
 
What one would be better to go to..
the apple store or At&t(i dont have AT&T service)

i have a app that is Cydia
and its the first gen

If it's an original iPhone as the OP said, the warranty has been up for over a year already anyway. :)

But to the OP, I doubt the Apple store (first place I'd go) or AT&T would be able to help. I'd talk to teh person who sold you the phone to see what's going on. :)
