Freaking me out... oh, this is the first M1 iPad. Got it mostly for the screen as I have consumed a LOT of video on it. Worked fine earlier today, put it on the charger, went out to do some shopping, came home and it was dead. Long press on the top right hand button did not reboot it. Plugging it into and out of the charger and I got no thermometer... even for a totally separate charger.

Could there be any other steps I might try to rescue it?

Any idea how much I'd get hit to bring it to Apple to have it revived?

in my various local apple stores they don’t charge me anything to take a look and make a recommendation. Even happened once that it fixed the device (whatever they did) and they didn’t charge. It’s certainly worth taking it in and asking if it’s not too much of an inconvenience.

I assume your warranty/Applecare is expired.

I wholeheartedly agree with @cupcakes2000 in post #2 before me:

Bringing it in an Apple store, having them look at it and asking for a quotation will cost you nothing. After that you can always decide if you want to pay for the repair or not.

Edit: never mind, just seen it was plugged in when it turned off so it’s not depleted battery… so visit Apple for help.

There is a 3 button press sequence to force reboot a new ipad, had to find and do to mine when it appeared dead recently.
You're my new HERO... have had to use the normal power off to reboot many times, that usually solved many issues I have had. Did NOT know about this 3 button thing and bloody hell IT WORKED! Can't tell you what a relief this is, I just had to spend many hundreds of dollars on medical issues my goddaughter has, so ya saved me some big coin (was expecting it to cost north of 600 bucks to fix).
