Why do you find it funny? Where do you get your news from? Opinion presenters like Fox or your major dailys? There's even a new one beng touted on here from Murdoch called 'The Daily' which has less journalistic credibility than a tomato, did you post a string of laughy face emoticons in any of those threads?
Just look at your old black & white movies which featured people called 'reporters', even fictitious ones like Jimmy Olsen in Superman were based on what the real ones used to be like. Or Peter Parker in Spiderman, the most unbelievable character in the modern movie version is actually the newspaper editor demanding the story. Seriously, today, an editor wanting a reporter/photographer to get the story or he's fired is more unbelievable than a guy in a red spandex costume flying through the air on silly string.
'Reporters' and 'editors' don't exist any more outside of publications like the National Enquirer and suchlike like they used to. All your major news outlets used to operate exactly the same way (digging for dirt, following leads, catching people out, ie Watergate) until you let our Murdoch into your country like the Brits did. Now they all operate like what he did to our news media 'journalists' - impotent stenographers and copy/pasters from his AP wire service. The 'successful' ones abandon journalism altogether to be opinion piece writers.
How many Vietnam style reporters were there during the Iraq war and subsequent occupation? None. Zero. Zilch. They were all 'embedded' as copy/pasters to present only one side of the story. How many photos have you seen of US soldiers with bleeding stumps for legs have you seen in the last 10 years? None. Not a one. Not like the old days at all. No news at all. Just stenography and PR.
You're laughing at yourself.
I'd take gutter journalism over opinion piece 'news' like Fox News any day for truth and accuracy. If I wanted to know the truth about a politician, I'd send a National Enquirer reporter after them, not a Murdoch one.
Seriously, I suggested googling this story. Do it. See how many of your trusted and reputable 'news' sorces are just running the National Enquirer story straight off the wire service as the story instead of doing their own pieces on Jobs' health? That's because none of them actually have any reporters left. I bet not a single one has even fact-checked whether Swayze did actually go to the same place or not, just stenographed it straight off the wire service, add a bit of opinion fluff to it and print it.
