OmniGroup has decided to chop off 3 months of their 6 month push to upgrade OmniOutliner to 4.0 and devote that recouped time to iPad OmniOutliner dev time. YES!
So now they'll be developing OO for the iPad and finishing the 4.0 build for the Mac desktop simultaneously.
The main sacrifice they've made in order to pull this off is postponing the coding for "aliasing" an item, long the holy grail of PIMs (Bonsai did eventually get it, albeit a poor implementation; only the ancient but short-lived Ecco Pro had a truly seamless implementation).
Too bad we'll have to wait for item aliasing, but at least we'll get OmniOutliner on the iPad, and sooner than expected. Maybe even by summer!
