oMP 4,1 PCIe Fan not spinning?

So it turns out not all things are kosher. When I got my Mac Pro and plugged it in bear (no RAM, Video Card, etc) the PCIe fan wouldn't turn on. I figured maybe because it had no RAM. Got the RAM, same thing happened. Maybe because there is nothing to cool down? Put in my new video card today, still won't spin.

I fired up SMCFanControl and it read "PCI FAN", but when I try to rev it up, it does nothing and SMCFC shows a speed of "000rpm". Wonderful.

Tried taking the fan out, making sure everything was aligned and plugged it back in. I tried this 3-5 times, still didn't work. I haven't tried pulling the fan out of the enclosure and running it plugged in. Maybe tomorrow I will.

Anyone have an idea as to what to try?

Not really, sounds like a dead fan which you can easily check, or more sinister a dead or dry joint on the PCB itself. If the fan runs when connected to a power supply ( 5V I think) then you're going to have to start looking deeper...fans are cheap, so I hope that's the issue.

If thats the case, I might just buy a fan off of eBay and hope thats the issue.

I may also have access to a multimeter this week. If I can get access, which pins on the PCB should I check? Does someone have a pin out of the connector?

Finally got it working. The problem was the connector when I went to press it in would retract back into the assembly and never connect. I ended up sticking a flat blade screwdriver into the fan and hold it in until it "clicked" in. I did that, plugged it in and sure enough it started spinning!

Because of the issues with the 5770 and 4,1, the fan is spinning at 1400rpm versus 800rpm, but the room it sits in is noisy most of the time so it doesn't bother me. Plus, I do most of video editing with headphones in so I barely hear it when working.
