Certainly the vast majority of on line iPhone orders go without a hitch, but it appears that many don't.
Is the savings really worth the additional expense of an in-person purchase where the phone can be inspected for physical damage and shown to be at least fundamentally functional?
It appears that many who order in good faith on-line are facing some very unpleasant surprises with their orders. :(

Both are great options, I don’t think there is one better than an other. I personally prefer to pickup in store just because I don’t have to wait at my home 8 hours until the delivery truck is here. I don’t think there’s a lot of hardware issues with online orders, and if so, getting the order online changes nothing to warranty replacement

Also, which savings are you talking about? The iPhone is priced the same in store or online

I prefer ordering from Apple. If there is a genuine problem, I have faith they will handle it properly. I often do online pickup when I can. If it is during the Christmas season, I opt for delivery.

I’ve never had an issue ordering online. I’d do whatever is most convenient for you. I did have an iPhone 7 run hot. When I took it to the Apple store they replaced it immediately. Best of luck with your new iPhone!

I've generally found that my carrier does not offer the largest capacity model in-person - even on launch day.
