I've successfully been using El Capitan and Mail for a few weeks. Today all but one of my many "On my Mac" Mail folders went missing from the sidebar. The folders are still visible and file sizes indicate content is still there in the library Mail V3 folder. Is there any way to make these folders visible short of reimporting them all? I have several folders with sub folders and sub-sub folders and tons of emails ... trying to avoid the tedious process of reimporting.

I've tried creating a new mailbox with the same name to see if the content would automatically appear. It doesn't. I've tried closing the app and restarting the computer. No luck. I do have a TimeMachine backup if that would help in solving this.

Any ideas?

With Mail quit....
Go to the User's Library folder. This folder is hidden by default. To unhide: Select the Finder in the Dock. Under Go in the Menu bar > hold down the Option key and you’ll see the Library.

• Go to Mail folder.
Select the V3 > MailData folder.
Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)

Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in
Empty the Trash
Open Mail. Mail will reindex your files.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas?

I did the OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 update and one of my file (the one i'm using most) as is located "on my mac" disappeared. In the library, in V3, mailboxes disappeared too... HELP... I'm desperate

My mail now needs a double click to open occasionally then it opens in a new pane on the left. A single click opens just the header preview on the right as normal . Have to rebuild mailbox every hour!!
