On my second MBP...

...and I'll be sending this one back too. My first one made that stupid little whirring sound, but nothing else was wrong. I figured that for over $2100 I was going to make sure that it was perfect. I got the new one today, and it was working great. Then, about a half hour into my experience, it started that annoying whine again. I quickly installed the mirror widget. I was going to be satisfied with that fix, as it's a fun widget to show off with.

Then it started that mooing sound. I had heard about it, but never heard it before. I was pissed off beyond belief. In fact, I still am pissed off beyond belief.

That said, other than those noises this is the most incredible computer I have ever owned or used extensively. I love my MBP, but I don't want those little things to keep annoying me.

As much as you might be justified in taking the machine back to make sure it doesn't have all those little annoyances, I think it's a bit oversensitive. On any other computer, this wouldn't be considered an issue, but for Macs, the slightest thing has everyone in a tizzy, and they need to get a replacement immediately.

As for the "I paid X, so I should have a perfect computer" argument, it doesn't make any sense. Moreover, I hear it far too much from dumb customers, and it irritates me. The amount you spend on a computer is not enough to buy perfection. All machines have their problems, and they don't perform every task perfectly. Yes, the noisiness of the MBP gets a bit annoying. However, maybe it would be wise to wait for Apple to actually completely fix the problem before having the machine repaired, rather than simply doing constant exchanges, and taking your chances.

Are you exchanging it at the Apple store or mailing it out and receiving a new one? I'm planning on exchanging mine, the f*cking whine is killing me.

Yeah. That's what I was considering. But while the whine can be temporarily fixed by running the widget "Mirror" or Photobooth, the mooing sound is driving me nuts!

If I happen to get my next one and it only whines, I'll be happy with it until a real fix.

See, Thats why i havent purchased my MacBook Pro yet - Because problems always occur with the first rev. of the product - Just look at the PowerBook when it first came out, and im now using the latest version of the PowerBook - NO PROBLEMS whatsoever, just be patient and wait for Apple to iron out all the problems for the MacBook Pro!

The amount you spend on a computer is not enough to buy perfection.

I know that for $1,000,000,000.00 you could buy a portable personal computer with parts so durable they couldn't wear out from normal wear and tear.

Steve Gibson himself has stated that hard drives, fans and other parts are designed to fail because those are the affordable designs. PC makers can build a machine that will not break they just couldn't find anyone who could afford it.

huh, what DOES the wine sound like? I think i heard it once, not sure.

my macbook pro is doing great for all u non belivers, I even spilt water on it earlier today and the harddrive was making crazy sounds. I let it dry and it is running great again. I love this little guy( the mbp) yeah im weird

I exchanged mine through Apple care. However, in agreeance with TLRedhawke, if you only have the whine, just use the mirror widget. In testing, that solution only used an average of 15 minutes of charge.
