Hi,

I bought ON1 Photo RAW 2017 ten months or so ago, but didn't use it that much, as I had lots of photos in lots of different places. Now I have a server (or two) and can have my photos all in one place, I wanted to use ON1 again, but upon startup it tells me there is a new update.

I have version 11.1 (or 2017.1) and now version 2017.7 is available. Well, clicking the INSTALL NOW button gets me a "connection refused error". I am still signed in via ON1.
Then I thought, maybe I can download the newer version from ON1, well, I can only download version 2017.6, not .7.

Then I saw that there is a really new version out and that an upgrade costs 99 USD and the normal purchase price is 119 USD. As I thought I could get a deal like with Affinity, that "one buy, updates for several years" could also be true with ON1, I was a bit flabbergasted. My current version of ON1 will probably be usable for several years, if it weren't that slow. As Affinity seems to be working on a DAM I will hold out until then, but I just wanted to vent my frustration with ON1 and its ****ed up upgrade price and its always signed in ****.

Let's hope Affinity learns some lessons from its users (most probably more vocal than me about issues like the above) and implements them viciously into their DAM.

Well, server 2 has to be hugged now.

Had Photo RAW and its predecessors for years. They have finally added an import feature that makes the Photo RAW Browser much closer to matching Lr Library.

I gave up on Photo RAW for a variety of reasons, went back to Adobe CC (Lr Classic) and use Topaz Studio for styling effects. Remember that Affinity Photo has no DAM and it is not 100% non-destructive. Once you leave the Raw Persona and go to Photo Persona you render the image and can not go back to Raw Persona and redo the raw processing.

I was as frustrated as you are. Bought it when it was first out (actually preordered it in beta) and then went through the bugs etc. before they fixed most of it. Few months later there is a new version that costs so much that I gave up on them. This is not something I want to support. So I'm shopping around trying to find alternative. Possibly Pixelmator Pro but waiting it out a bit more :)

As long as you know there is no DAM with it. It uses the MacOS raw development engine.
