I am very confused by this. I want to JB mostly for the customization, which I understand is done through Winterboard (the majority of it). I've heard no complaints about Winterboard on the Dev Team's JB (but have heard many other problems like no carrier service/WiFi etc), but a LOT of people seem to like Purplera1n's JB better not only for the ease of the JB process but because it doesn't have those problems the Dev Team's does. I know Winterboard wasn't supported in the first Purplera1n release, and I can't seem to find a straight answer on if it works with the RC2 version? I know there are a few threads on it here, but I don't think I've seen a definitive "yes" or "no", and when Googling it I too come up with mixed results. Some info says RC2 adds Winterboard support, other info says Winterboard still isn't supported/crashes. Can anyone provide a definate answer (preferably people with first hand knowledge, like the members who have used the RC2 JB)?

I'm sitting here ready to JB finally and would much rather to the PR method but I really want Winterboard, so if that means having to use the DT's method then that's what I'll do, I just don't wanna waste the time if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance

There have been updates to mobilesubstrate and winterboard after the release of RC2. It world fine on both jailbreaks. Wifi issues are mainly unlocked users but Also has been updated however.

Sad I'm typing this while on my iPhone at the pool.. Haha

Use redsn0w and there'll be no concern as to whether or not this stuff works.

Yeah, except I have heard of other problems with the Redsn0w method, like crashing, no carrier signals, no Wi-Fi/3G, etc. Seems like the only problem with Purplera1n is Winterboard. I'd much rather do a 3 minute process to JB than have to go through full restores to keep JB'ing if I end up with no carrier signal or one of the other problems discovered with the redsn0w method.

Besides, this thread is asking if Winterboard works in Purplera1n RC2, not which method is better, there are already threads on that. I'm just trying to get an answer on Winterboard's compatibility with PRRC2, not have to sort through a bunch of "this method is better" posts to just get a yes or no.

* Loki, thanks for the info, anyone else with PRRC2 JB have any input on Winterboard?

Hey thanks for the info.

And it's OK dude, I'm missing out on 12 foot waves and perfect, cloudless weather in order to JB my phone because it's the only free time I have, I leave for a surf trip to South Africa tomorrow so if I don't get it done now I'll have to wait 2 weeks haha. Hence me wanting to "make it ra1n", it gets me down the street to the beach quicker lol.

Emphatically YES!

The "just use redsn0w" stuff is a bunch of FUD. Winterboard was fixed on the 3GS before redsn0w even came out, so the idea that it was somehow not working because of purplera1n is just wrong. MobileSubstrate and Winterboard both apparently required updates for the 3GS because the 3GS is subtly different than the 3G.

Look anywhere and everywhere... there are plenty of '3.0 compatible' apps that won't run on the 3GS regardless of your method of jailbreak. Some apps are just going to have to be updated.
