I've had the Apple TV since January 2008. A few months ago, I switched the TV input to the Apple TV input and nothing was shown. I had previously hacked it and it did not seem to have any problems before.

I removed the hard drive and put it in an enclosure. The computer read it fine! I tried running some Apple TV hard drive recovery tool, but that did not seem to work. Now when plugged into power, an orange light blinks on the front. The TV shows nothing when connected.

I came across this on eBay. They say it could fix my problem. From what I can remember, the only ATV hacking tool that cost money was ATV Flash. This leads me to believe that they just loaded free software onto the drive. Does anybody know where I can get that software and try it out? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried starting the ATV up from the Recovery partition? If you've altered the hard drive partitions in any way, you'll have to restore it somehow.

To be honest, I messed with the hard drive several months ago. I have no idea on where to start with putting the software back correctly. Is there a guide on how to do this?

You'll have to find a way to download then reformat the Apple TV correctly. I have no idea how to do this. Just to be sure, you have tried to start the ATV in Recovery mode?

I remember trying to follow directions to put it into recovery mode, but it did not work.
