the apple store on 5th avenue will most likely be the busiest, but i was wondering...that is open 24/7.....how do people line up when the shop is open already...is apple going to have a line for people getting the iPhone whilst people who aren't just happily walk into the store????.....what happens???

That is not only a question for the 5th Ave store, but all Apple Stores. All of the stores are open for regular Mac and iPod sales, genius and studio bar appointments. It will be interesting, and possibly frustrating figuring out how the whole line thing will work. I hope the natural line will form at some entrance, with normal business going on during the day, but perhaps the first person should bring a sign saying, "iPhone line starts here" Needless to say, it will be fun and I'll be one of those trying to figure out where the heck the line is.

easy, just look for the line with 300,000 people in it! jk :)

i was at the san fran one a few months ago for a concert and they had a designated place for people to line up (it was free) so they'll probably do that

I am sure that some stores will have an area roped off for all of us that are going to stand in line to look like idiots while everyone else goes in and gets what they need non iPhone related (I have no problem looking like an idiot in public) and I would assume at some stores people will make their own lines. In my area it will be interesting. We have an Apple Reseller that has a great relationship with Apple, therefor there is no flagship stores in my area, just a few Mall stores (one thats going to be expanded to the second floor:D ). I remember for the Jaguar midnight release that the mall was not to happy when at 10 hundreds of people showed up. I doubt there will be much of a fuss before 4, but it will be interesting to see if some people try to camp out in the mall. They get really unnerved when people just hang around.

in any extent I will be in line with my MBP and an extra battery if need be.:D

YAY for being an uber dork

The 5th ave store will be interesting. Yes it is always open. I have been there a number of time at 2-3 AM and it is still busy. The landlord of the property has MASSIVE security around the area every day so I wouldn't be surprised if waiters are told to leave.
