The movie won't even appear in "My Movies". It was encoded using Handbrake from the original disc. All my other movies appear ... anyone have any possible fixes? Thanks

.m4v

I've encoded about 5 or 6 dvd's thus far using the HB AppleTV preset + m4v file type. They all work. I can't figure this out.

I had this problem with my Star Wars Special Features DVD. I had to pass it through DTOX, then through Handbrake to get it to work. Either version would play fine in iTunes, Front Row on my Mac or in Quicktime, but only the DTOX version would stream/sync to the ATV.

I deleted it from my iTunes Library. Re-ripped the DVD using HB+AppleTV preset and now it works. I used the same exact process the previous time. I have no idea why it decided to work now. My only thought is the for whatever reason my iTunes Library got messed -- so when I deleted it and re-added the movie it fixed itself.

Strange...but at least it's working now!

Thanks for the replies.

What's DTOX? Free download

I'm having similar issues. MP4s won't stream to my ATV but some do. They all play fine within iTunes. Although I'm ripping from Blu Ray

DTOX is DVD2OneX, an application that can be used to compress a dual-layer DVD to fit onto a single-layer disc, join those 2-disc movies together (like the Godfather Part II, or the extended LOTR films), strip out unwanted cells, and help rip stubborn DVDs. It's not free. I think it costs 40 Euros. It's a great application, but probably not really worth it unless you really need it or will make good use of it.

I had similar issues when I'd rip with HB using the AC3 passthru (which forces the m4v extension). Then I'd change the m4v extension to mp4 so my ps3 would play it. Itunes would play it fine, but apple-tv would have nothing to do with it, either streaming or syncing. Granted, this was a year ago, and I've not attempted to use the ps3 again, so I've not bothered with the extension changes. Prob not what you are doing, but just something that happened to me in the past.

What do you tag with?

Where your problem files tagged with MetaX? I ask because, I have had problems with the newest version of MetaX screwing up small files. Any file that is processed through 2.4.6, that is <1 min, will have the video ruined. I don't know if it also caused the problem on these two files or not. The two files are an isolated incident with me. I have almost 3000 files that I have personally ripped from my AppleTV. They range from 2 hour movies and to 30 second extras. I suddenly had 2 short (around 4 min) bonus features that the system informed me were unable to play on my AppleTV. I cannot see anything different about them, but they play fine from iTunes.
