My two options are:

24" iMac
2.33GHz
2GB RAM
500GB HDD
7600GT 256MB VRAM
BT Keyboard & MM
Applecare

Mac Pro
2.66GHz
1GB RAM
250GB HDD
2nd Superdrive
BT & Airport
BT Keyboard & MM
Applecare
2nd HDD 320GB (Seagate 7200.10)

The Mac Pro is $100 more than the iMac. Never been a real fan of the all-in-one. Don't know that I need all the power of a Mac Pro now. Couldn't afford another gig of RAM for the Mac Pro for a while, 2nd HDD is only $100. Want to do a fair amount of iMovie and other iLife on it as well as web and email and down the road Final Cut Express. Have a 19" LaCie CRT, and would have to/want to wait until ACD's got iSights to get a 23".

I understand the Mac Pro kicks serious but I also wouldn't want it to be wasted. Will the iMac really rock still?

24" iMac or Mac Pro?

I dont know....I am thinking the same thing myself. I just think that a 7600 is an embarassment in a top of the line iMac. The Graphics cards on the Pro are keeping me from jumping on a 24" iMac.

If I get the Pro, I would get the stock GeForce 7300GT 256, I doubt I would outlay for the X1900. What is so bad about the 7600GT? And why does everyone ordering a Mac Pro seem to want the X1900 over the stock card. Excuse me, but I don't know much about graphics cards. And I don't do any gaming.

Personally I'd get the mac pro, but that's because I'd keep it for a long time and do upgrades. If you're not about keeping your system for more than 2 years then get the imac. You'll have the nice screen and plenty of power. Either way they are both great machines.
