One Stupid Question

depends on what you're really looking for. i just filled my 60gb ipod. so i would not be a happy camper if i only had 8 gigs. but that's not what i'd be looking for.
also remember, that 8 gigs has os x installed on it. so you're really more or less looking just shy of 7gb.
figuring an album is around 70mb, you'd be looking at around 100 albums, or maybe 80 albums and a few movies. but taking into account your ipod is now a phone....

No an eight gig hard drive is not going to carry your latest collection of movies, but it will carry a large number of songs, or a few movies, or some tv shows. You may need to keep up with your library more than a 60 gig iPod, but it will be (more than) enough to live off of, I think.
8 gig won't be enough for some, plenty for most, I think. Most people with more than 8 gig on their iTunes library will already have a high-capacity iPod, so they can keep using that for their entire music collection. You'll be able to sync just playlists and podcasts to your iPhone from that same library, so you can skinny down your music to just your favourites.
Of course, you won't have 8 gig for music & video. You'll need space for all your contacts, e-mails and apps. I think the 4 gig model will be pretty tight on memory because of this.
If you have a problem with only 8 gig, wait a few months and the 16 or 32 gig models will come out. Apple always does this: release a product, the upgrade it before even reaching the apex of the demand curve. See here.

That is how I think of it. 8 GB is still plenty of space for music files and a few hours of video is its compressed well. You will just find your self have to manage and reorganize your files on your phone.

What I am going to do is put about half of my music on it (fav songs) and then swich around what I put on it like maybe I will have a movie on it for trips or all of the seasons of the office... but I am not buying it right away that is for sure..... I dont want them pulling an apple tv on a a 600$ device.
naw i am not a computer geek i am a car geek ...i have a secratary for those needs....
