Or iPhone OS in general...

A proper IM client that is free (w/o jailbreaking).

Meebo IM. Enough said. It has every social networking IM system built in it and is free w/ push notifications.

You have to pay $5.99-$9.99 on the iPad to get an experience comparable to Meebo.

I own both and this is just my own little rant wondering why anyone could or would charge for an IM app.

****. I never thought about that. Im going to go cancel my ATT contract (hopefully the ETF wont be too much), sign a new one with VZW and go by myself a sweet subsidized droid. Free IM app here I come!

Nothing like saving 5 dollars!

This is misleading and unfair. Meebo is available on the iPhone. The iPad just came out. Perhaps Meebo will make a version for the iPad. I hope they will.

? This one thing doesn't give Android a plus in the MobileOS war. Why?

There's Meebo for iPhone. you can still run Meebo on iPad in simulated mode. Meebo is probably working on the iPad version but it'll take time.

There's IM+ Lite for free, AIM is free. Not everybody need all social network IM systems included.

Secondly, Android has other things that better, like the notification system and Gmail App that's really worth it.

This is a joke, right?

Meebo is free in the App Store.

Edit: Talk about getting beaten to the punch.

Couldn't resist..:D

Idk. I use both on a daily basis and just noticed.

iphone apps on ipad=fail

Still, IM clients are useless on iPad since on a device so big it makes no sense to have a chat client up when you could be doing other things (no multitask).

You=Fail.

Then say multitasking is one thing that Android has that iPad/iPhoneOS don't. You specifically said IM client without jailbreaking and Meebo. We proved that it does have IM clients without jailbreaking and it does have Meebo.

What android tablet do you have? I wasn't aware of any mass produced android tablet on the market for sale right now.

You said your comments apply to "iPhone OS in general", but the iPhone itself -- and most people who use the iPhone OS are using iPhone or iPod Touch -- can use Meebo.

And the iPad just came out. Is there even an Andriod tablet yet? How can the comparison be fair?

You're the one who said it needed one...

meebo sucks.

I would rather pay for a good IM client then use a crappy one just for free.

Reminds of the two for one droid sales.

I guess my main direction WAS geared towards the fact that IM clients are useless in general on iPhone OS considering it is harder to switch between programs. Yes there is Meebo IM on the iPad but, again, iPhone apps on iPad blow. They are pixelated and hinder the screen capabilities.

Now that you've cleared up your feelings, I completely agree with you. Oh, and relying on push notifications is a joke.

You could always use the plist hack and get rid of pixel doubling by making it fill the screen "natievely" for Meebo iPhone app on iPad (with jailbreaking)...works well for Facebook, but how well for this, I wonder...

All of this is pointless, since, iPhone os 4.0 will have multi-tasking, too. Plus, from the betas, there will be tethering. Android is catching up and may pass the iphone 4.0 by year end, since, they are updating like crazy. Apple might need to advance the os more than once a year.
