One thing I wish the new iPad had to help justify the price...

It’s a valid topic though. I think others are really confused why Apple couldn’t be more consistent by offering 6 GB of RAM for _both_ new iPad Pro models versus 4 GB for the 11”. For some, that’s a ‘dealbreaker’.

Their thought process regarding RAM seems to be "How low can we go and get away with it?". The iPhone XS got 4 GB because the updated camera functionality probably needs a lot of RAM. The thinking on Android side is "How much can we put in so it looks better on paper?" with no regard if it will ever be utilized.

When it comes to disk space, Apple's thinking is "How low base model storage can we provide so people will buy the next tier up at a hefty premium". 128 GB would be a good spot for a lot of people but no, still 64 vs 256+ GB.

Apple of today is heavily run by bean counters at the expense of customers. This is apparent in things like removing the headphone adapter from the iPhone XS accessories or not providing an extension cord in the Macbook Pros. The replaceable plug feature on chargers also seems to be going away so people will have to use their own plug adapters or buy a separate charger when they travel abroad.

I'll be amazed if all the new storage tiers don't come with 6GB RAM but we'll know for sure next week.
iOS runs great under 4GB RAM but if Apple are serious about pushing the 'Pro' moniker then they need to increase RAM to allow more serious apps to breathe. They are making a big splash about Photoshop coming to iPad and how it is the full version that shares the same codebase as the desktop version and we all know how much Photoshop benefits from more RAM.
I recently used Affinity Pro on the iPad Pro to process a panorama using 10 Fuji RAW files for a source image of 240MP and 500Mb. It was great to see a mobile device able to handle such a taxing process including all the auto alignment, merging and blending of the images but it wasn't a fast process and an increase in RAM would make a huge difference here.

I don't see me upgrading my iPad Pros unless there is a RAM increase included.
 
Water protection. It’s not like I’m taking the iPad to the pool (although some might!). It’s more for piece of mind around spills, etc. I will assume that due to the “de-portification”, we’ll get a bit more inherent water protection, but official IP67 would’ve been nice.

Whenever people are complaining about RAM in iOS devices these days, I don't see why they actually want more. Just because™ ?

Every Apple product is designed now to up sell you to it. They've released like 4 new form factors of the iPad Pro recent years that makes tech geeks get the itch.

EDIT... after seeing supposedly “leaked” benchmarks, Apple may have included 6GB to just the 1 TB models (which is great they increased it) but a super shady POS move to those ordered the mide-tier models and to loyal supporters and users of Apple’s products.
This is bs, I’m going to cancel my order as I thought Apple learned not to pull this crap after the 2016 iPad Pro 9.7” fiasco.

I suppose Apple has a purpose by increasing from 4GB to 6GB. Is it because 1TB owners will work with bigger files? Is it because they expect the 1TB owners to be professionals that may have a benefit of this?

Considering the insane price bump on the 1TB versions, I don't really think it's unfair to the customers that they get 2GB RAM extra. But I do think it's shady that Apple doesn't specify this anywhere.
 
The thing that bothers me about the RAM debate, and my info is admittedly probably out of debate, is that Apple used to insist keeping apps open in the back ground didn't affect performance. And yet I often have to close apps to complete tasks in other apps. For example sometimes when browsing sites in safari, they won't load. After closing some other apps, the sites begin to load normally. So it seems like the RAM is an actual thing that does affect performance in day to day use despite Apple's seeming insistence that RAM doesnt matter with these devices.

I do still wish for 326ppi. Or at least regular layout in 50/50 split view for 11". It's practically the same size as two iPad mini 4s side by side.

I thought it was 6GB on 12.9 and 11, but only the 1TB models? Either way I don't think it would have hurt to up RAM to 6 across the board if this is the beginning of a big change for iOS on the iPad (which it could well be come June)
 
I think my biggest gripe is the lack of a backlit keyboard with a row of function keys with the smart keyboard. It also doesn't have side protection for falls.

The reason I say that is because if it is a "Pro" item it should have these things rather than having a 3rd party come up with a keyboard case. The iPad 10.5 keyboard case selection has not been the best.

Will be interesting to see if the new aspect ratio (wider in landscape) will help with this! I’m probably going to downsize to the 11” when they are updated again in 12-18 months as the new models do look quite appealing.

It doesn't. iOS design guidelines say compact layout still for the new 11-inch Pro.

I agree with you. I also think Apple should start stating the reasoning behind the price difference. Some customers would think that its just for the 1TB. $400 price difference isnt too bad if its including the 1TB jump and the extra 2GB of RAM. Compared to the rest of the Apple lineup anyway

To be honest, I don't think this is going to happen. Apple has always been hesitant to mention RAM in the iDevices and I don't think they want to go down that route now. It seems like a mix of cost control and desire to control the narrative. RAM has a high impact on peoples' perception of "future proofing".

At the end of the day I think it's only fair to the customers that the RAM is mentioned on the Tech Specs page like for everything else.
