How do you handle using a single “work area” with two different MacBook pros. I just replaced my work machine so I am retiring my 2019 MBP to be used as a personal machine.

I have a thunderbolt dock, 2 monitors, Bluetooth keyboard & mouse connected via a single TB cable.

Obviously, I don’t intend on using them all at once but only when one of the machines is plugged in.

The only real hurdle I can see is using the same keyboard + trackpad since it will be a BT connection to both machines. I don’t want to be typing on the active machine and have the machine that is not in use register the keystrokes.

am I overthinking this?

Universal control could be the way, I'm not totally up to speed on how that will work. Another option is using a keyboard/mouse that supports device switching. I use a Nuphy Air 75 keyboard and Logitech M590 mouse to switch between my work Windows machine and personal Macbook.

Using universal control between my 2018 and 2021 MacBook pros and it works really well. Drag and drop files is seamless too!
