So my OneDrive for my Mac M1 Silicone build is not a happy one and its very buggy and slow. I know, I know I am using an insider preview app but here me out. I have two OneDrive accounts, both 1TB each and about 700GB is each of them. My one is my web development folder with over 450,000 files so there is a lot. I am using the latest version (it auto updates) too.

PS I Know about the pending updates but I am using Monetary 12.2 (no betas) but they don't apply yet.

My problems are
  • Ever since OneDrive native came out, I have not been able to sync my two accounts fully (going into the 2nd month now) and I still haven't synced everything because I actually can't. Its so slow logging in and syncing, it crashes every day and it's a massive memory hog. Yesterday it got to 80GB (often gets to 60GB, 57GB, 77GB as well) and then crashed. Yes 80GB memory usage and I only have 16GB so even as fast as the M1 is, it slows the whole machine down to a point where its frustrating. Problem is it hogs the memory but still doesn't sync fast. So in 8 hours it synced 5000 files and 1GB over a 500MB fibre line. So I have to open the app every day and deal with the slow syncing and slow and slugging PC with no memory. I have tried mostly every day to sync but I still have not synced everything.
  • Its so slow signing in, it takes at least a minute or 2 to sign in. I then pause for 2 hours and it wants to sign in again when I resume so any operations like downloading a file while its paused you actually cannot do. You have to sign in, and 2 minutes later then action on the file.
  • Microsoft do not make it easy to submit bugs, well anywhere that I could find. I have used the submit feedback but its like pointless, I bet it just goes into a bin somewhere. I even contacted Microsoft OneDrive support and they did not even know how I could submit a bug report.
  • I have tried dropbox and its also has problems. I cannot find anywhere to keep files local so I need to get hold of support. I used to use DropBox but I get 3TB from Microsoft for free so I am trying to make this work. Dropbox sign in is amazing and so fast compared to OneDrive.
  • I have tried using a cloud transfer app to sync my files too but that too crashes so waiting for the developers to get back to me.
Am I unique to these issues are other people also experiencing what I am? I know I could use another provider but as I mentioned I want to get it to work because I can use 2 separate accounts between my work and personal and I do get 3TB free (I have 3 Business Essentials licences and get 1TB with each account).

I'm having the same issues on my 2018 MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5) running Montery 12.2.1. I have to force quit out of OneDrive several times per day due to OneDrive taking up excessive amounts of memory and % CPU reported in Activity Monitor. My battery life is shot while OneDrive is running. Regularly I have to wait several minutes or reboot just to access a file from my OneDrive.
