The title says it all really. I am looking to cancel office shortly and wondered if onenote will not work or is limited in some way if I don't have the subscription, like no pencil support. Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I presume I still need onedrive though.

Thanks.

As far as I know no. OneNote is a free app. You can install it on Windows, Android, iOS and macOS without subscription. I do not have subscription and have OneNote on my Android phone, my iPad and my Windows laptop and it works.

I do think that the app with the subscription has a bit more features, but the free app is good enough.

Thanks for the help. Guess I will find out after I have cancelled my office 365 sub!

OK now that I think about. If you cancel the subscription will you have some active Microsoft account? If you use OneNote in more than one device you will want to sync your notes on all of them. For this you need some Microsoft account. I use my skype account so I don't have issues and I don't need the Office 365 subscription. Do you have some account that you can use?

Yes, I have a MS account and can sync my notes, I just though that if I didn’t have office then the app would not support the apple pencil, which is what I like most about the app.

Ah I see. Nah the app supports the pencil without subscription :). I don't have a subscription and use it. The differences between having subscription or not are more in the tags you can use, as well as integration with Microsoft apps like Outlook etc.
