After getting my iPhone 6 Plus, I find myself missing android at times. I'd like to use both and be able to easily switch between two phones whenever I want to (ignoring the small hurdle of iMessage). Is the OnePlus One still a good option? The $299 price tag is enticing. Is the support for the phone good? Does it get android L? Is there a better alternative I should consider?

It's still a very good handset, apparently there will be likely 2 android L Roms coming in the future. One from OnePlus themselves (beta already out) and Cyanogen have said they will have L in 8 weeks or so.

For the money it's a good phone, and if budget is the biggest factor - especially if the device isn't going to be your primary device - then yes it's still a very decent purchase.

Nexus 5 for 2 reasons:
1. Vanilla Android and not a skin developed by a 3rd party company
2. Easy to update

I'd go with the OPO as it's still a good buy, especially if you're outside of China where it's less clear at that price point.

Sure it's not a Nexus for instant updates but the battery and storage especially and petty much everything swing it. In a month all the Lollipop rush will have died down.

Good device but it's been 3 months and still no Lollipop. I think this is outrageous. Keep this in mind when buying.

They promised it'd come sometime in February. Last I've read about the nightly builds they are still on track.

Also, have you tried cyanogen yet? Its such a great take on android that I don't really mind the wait. :)

Having come from an iPhone 6 to the oneplus I highly recommend you trying the oneplus. Invites are fairly easy to get now. Their shipping time was phenomenal. I got it within a week in the US.

And the device is fantastic. Great hardware. Great software (better than stock in my opinion) and great value. I can comment more if you have any specific questions but I say yes, give it a shot.

How's the camera in comparison to your iPhone 6? Battery life? And how's overall speed and fluidity of the system in comparison? Those are my main 3 concerns.

I've had both devices, OPO and currently the iP6+.

Camera: iP6+>OPO
Battery: Both perform excellent in this category.

OPO has dreadful customer / warranty support, a complete 180 degrees from the exemplary service we enjoy from Apple. They've burned a lot of bridges including a big one with CyanogenMod.

I bought and tried one because I could easily afford to lose the money if all went wrong, not that I was being negative, but rather just thinking realistically.

What I didn't buy was all the hype and unearned image simply because it was cheap and somehow for a time the darling of the press.

The verdict? A decent cheap smartphone that still needs lots of work. Yet cheap only if you get a working one. Get a bad one and you're out far more than just the money. At least if your time is worth anything... :)

In response to @technosix: I believe their quality control has improved since release. As of late, there hasn't been much about defected devices being shipped.

In reference to CSR, yeah, they still lack in that.

And what's this with burning bridges with Cyanogen?

So if I get it and hate it, what's their return policy like?

Assume non-existent.

They'll take too long to reply and when they do they'll ask you to ship it to China with your own money.

How stable is it on the software side? And does it feel as fluid as an iPhone?

Software wise it's grand now, was a brief time when an update caused issues with battery life but that has been fixed.

It's as stable as a nexus running 4.4 and is very fast in use.

I like a few others got the OnePlus One very early after it finally went on sale. Whilst I was impressed with the phone for the most part my niggles were volume and power keys felt very cheap and I thought it's bezel ratio was very big - but if your used to iPhone 6 plus that shouldn't be a problem.

Mine did have the yellow screen issue which was why I got rid of it and sold at quite a loss.

I now have the option of buying a good condition Moto X 2014 for $350, 16GB. Between the two, which would be a better option?

Personally if you want the newest OS now (and likely continuing into the future - whereas deadlines and OnePlus company have always been vague and have never been met/stuck to) and 16gb isn't going to be a deal breaker (you'll only get 10.5 free user available) then I would say the Moto X 2014. I'm very happy with mine and whilst the OnePlus isn't poorly built - the Moto X does feel more premium imho. Plus it's a dramatically smaller device in hand despite it having a large 5.2" screen.

I'd go with the Moto X 2014 personally (and I did).

do you want a halfbaked buggy version? if you want it "now", better to buy only Nexus devices...

64gb OPO is a "must have"... cheap but great value for money.

14days return policy - need to contact CS. some has had problem to get replies, i have gotten replies within a day when contacted them.

OS is stable, fast and many things to customize...

I had a 16GB Nexus 5 and was fine with the space. Software updates and support are a big factor for me without a doubt.

Sounds like the Moto X 2014 will suit you, although I'd still get a OnePlus One, the power user in me would want that 3GB RAM, 64GB internal mem and beefier 3100mAh battery in the OPO.

There is no question, the camera is better on the iPhone 6. However the camera isn't bad on the OnePlus. It's just a little slower to focus, and pictures don't come out as often/reliably crystal clear like they almost almost do on the iPhone 6. I have to applaud Apple for their camera software. Their ability to process clear, clean, beautiful images whilst still allowing for quick snapping is unmatched. The OnePlus one's camera software is actually quote good, with a lot of very cool modes that all give good photos. It just isn't as quick and snappy as the iPhone. This is probably the only one area the OnePlus falls short of the iPhone 6.

Battery life is an easy win for the OnePlus. Keep in mind I'm comparing to the 6, and not the 6+. The OnePlus battery life just keeps on chugging. There's no other way to describe it. I don't really bother charging it midday any more. I regularly get 2+ hours of SOT at 60+% battery life. The iPhone 6 battery life was fine, but OnePlus trumps it easily.

Cyanogen is fabulous. It's stable, very fast, and the extra features they've added to stock Android really elevate Android to a whole new level. I can't stress how much I'm enjoying their version of Android. Every time I'm like "I wish Android would allow me to do this..." Cyanogen answers with that feature. It's really nifty. And it's not overbearing like I've seen of TouchWiz. It's all very intuitive, natural, obvious additional features; features which I don't get why Google themselves do not add.

And yes, the OS is very fluid. Everything is zippy. No OS is impervious to the occasional stall here and there, but it is very rare. In fact, I found my iPhone 6 with iOS 8 far more buggy, slower, and less stable. I've had plenty of apps crash on me on iOS 8, whereas I've yet to really experience any crash on my OnePlus.

Hope that helps!

Aren't the Moto X's camera and battery life (two things you specifically asked about of the OnePlus) two sore points? That's what I've read.

With my Moto X 2014

I get around 5 hours screen-on time with lollipop and the camera isn't bad at all. Few images attached.

KitKat battery wasn't as good and brightness setting not as good but lollipop improved these dramatically.

These two options are good one
OnePlus seems to have better battery life overall
Moto X has smaller size i think
But i would definitely recommend those chinese brand phones because marketing and old cliché obscure people eyes lol
Chinese brands make very great stuffs, it doesnt mean cheap and low quality at all.
(Motorola belongs to Lenovo, so we can also call them as chinese brand)
