Online backup / sync / share service?

I need to be able to sync and share multiple TB drives on multiple computers.

Say I'm working on a bunch of Pro Tools sessions during the day and in the process, alter tons of files on several 2TB drives. At the end of the work day I'd like to be able to hit a "Sync Now!" button, then leave and when I get home, log in online and be able sync that day's changes with my local drive. (i.e. not have a client running in the background uploading every change I make in real time).

Also, I need to grant and control access privileges to various users.

Suggestions for a service?

Backblaze seems more pure data loss prevention...
Dropbox has a real time client and isn't suited for entire drives...
Maybe box.com?

Problem here is Internet connection speeds... Even if you had a fairly crazy 100mbps ipload connection it would still take roughly 4 hours to sync a TB of data and I doubt you would even have a fraction of that upload speed....

Assuming the drive was full, the initial backup might take many hours, but daily syncs would only upload altered files.

Synology NAS can sync between themselves. Goodsync can sync a dir. For what you're wanting you might need to use rsync across a VPN.

www.crashplan.com Set it to run via schedule. Do the initial backup locally and then take drive and attach to your computer and enable it.

Boom, you're done.

And if you don't use their servers, I don't think it even costs anything.

One relys on a enterprise grade Synology multi-bay high capacity NAS, and is not connected to the Internet. That assures complete security as it can't be compromised.

The second is my online network, that is also backed up via Synology and is as secure as possible. I use a variety of online cloud services for casual use. For sharing with the family, I've built a dedicated web site.

Hmmm... it would definitely need to be across the internet for multiple users at different locations -- there would be no LAN.

I wonder if I should just invest in an Mac Mini / Lion Server...

I'd suggest:

1. Find a NAS-type solution that has speeds that you can live with and do all work on the NAS. Then no matter where you are, you have the latest files.

2. Look into Amazon S3.
