Hi all,

Could someone help me understand Apple’s online return policy?

I purchased an iPad Pro 12.9” and wanted to return it to get a larger storage option (512GB). Apple said that I had until yesterday to initiate a return (which I did), print a label and send it back via UPS. However, it now says that the iPad needs to be back to Apple by May 13th. For reference, the return location is probably about 20 KM away from where I live. Does that mean I have at least another week with this iPad before I actually need to drop it off at a UPS location?

Thanks for your help.

I experienced the same thing recently, but decided to ship the items back the same day so there'd be less worry about possible carrier delays. It appears for online returns you have 14 days to initiate the return plus a week for Apple to receive it, but I can't confirm there's a policy that covers that. I just reviewed the Apple shipping and return policy to see if it's mentioned there, but the only references are to the 14 day return period (and its extension because of store closures).

When in doubt, it can't hurt to pop into an online store chat for confirmation about the policy so that you have a written record from Apple in case there's a problem.

FWIW, in the U.S., Apple's website currently says that purchases can be returned at Apple retail stores for 14 days after the retail stores reopen:

Q. How can I return an order I bought online while under shelter in place orders?
A: Start a return online at apple.com/orderstatus, where you can create a return shipping label to ship your product from a drop off point or schedule a pickup at your location. You can also return your product to an Apple Store within 14 days of the store's reopening.
