Hi, I have a new project that I'm working on for a client.

what is an opensource online store, thats really custimizable and that I can actually desigh the user interface on.

The store will be the main purpose of this site. its going to be an online store for a medium size clothing company. and Please open source only. thanks

online store

online stores can go from simple to very complex, I have a friend that runs an online motorcycle clothing store and has spent well over $150k on web development, the site is ground up built with PHP and mysql, it takes care of checking distributors inventory, items in stock and takes care of response emails and shipping, he has developed a full package so just a few people can do huge amounts of business, but the cost of doing this was pretty large.

that nice, but I still have the same proablem. I' looking for somftware because a high paying client of mine, whos job as a desgner and retailer of high fashion cloths requires a nice looking site, I need somthing that can be set up like the gapwebsite

Um, then do you know what you're doing? It doesn't sound like it, honestly.

While the features of cube cart may not meet your needs, the ability to theme it sure does (from what you said you needed). You can make it look like anything you want, with a little time to actually write a theme for it.

If you honestly don't have the skills to pull it off, and need something perfect out of the box, you might wish to contract out a professional.

I have seen osCommerce. But this looks a little well..... not customizable. I want to be able to program it myself. Anybody have any other ideas??
OS Commerce is fully customizable if you know what you're doing. Unless you know how to write PHP/some other backend server language, you may find customizing most carts to be a daunting task.

oscommerce is customizable, but you need to be willing to put in a lil elbow grease and read some things ....you can buy templates, but you still need to know how to customize it yourself....i'd recommend something like netobjects fusion but this is a mac forum and i dont think it's compatible with that....

otherwise check out scriptlance.com ...you can get some things done there for a pretty low price...someone might be willing to install it and get the store up and running for you for around $50

I second cubecart, I'm using it on my site and it works really well.

You can skin it pretty well too, much easier to skin than oscommerce or zencart.

The thing that I think is most important is deciding how you will process orders (i.e. via paypal, merchant account from bank, etc..) then decide what software to use.

Though iif you have the money get a custom cart made, it'll be worth it in the long run if the website becomes successful.
