I understand why I can only have 4 items on the dock of my iPhone given the screens limited real-estate.

Am I the only one that thinks it looks a little stupid with only 4 items on the iPad?

If I get a iPad I would also get the iWork suite etc and would like to be able to put these apps on the dock.

Think it will be possible?

You can already put 5 icons on the iPhone's dock if you jailbreak, so it's possible. The question is will Apple let you do it?

Nice - notice you still can't delete the native app!

Ok... there not much use if you delete the native apps. Remember the whole iPad does its magic due to the native apps and seeing as how Apple doesn't let other app mimic the native apps, I see no reason to delete... except for the Voice Memo app. I could sure do away with that.

Can you change the page it so it displays 6 apps per row, like you can with the dock? With 4 apps/row, it looks too widely spaced to me. I'd rather have more apps per page, so I don't have to flip through as many screens to get the one I want.

Oh well. Hopefully that'll change though, and be a user-changeable setting.

Let's see, what apps would I want in my dock:
1) Safari
2) Omnifocus
3) Mail
4) Calendar
5) Music
6) VLC

That would be satisfying.

All I want is the ability to have a folder on the dock, think of the Applications folder on Macs that you can put in the dock if you want. I want to touch that, then all apps appear that way it keeps the desktop space (if you can call it that) clear.

1) Apps
2) Media - music, video, pictures
3) Utilities - things, weather, etc

This is great news about the six icons on the dock. What I plan to do is put my most often used apps on the dock and then on the first home screen only have one icon - calendar. Then have all the rest of my apps on the 2nd and 3rd screens. This should make for a very clean looking interface I think - just a pretty background picture and one icons. I wish it was possible to have the first home screen with no icons at all. I like a clean looking desktop.

I'm not a developer or anything, but couldn't you essentially do this by creating an app that has no icon (or perhaps it's clear). Then you give the app the name of " " so that nothing shows up. Put just this app on the 1st screen and VIOLA!

Or maybe I'm talkin' out my butt.

Off topic, but this makes me wonder how many screens you can have. I know the iPhone 3GS is limited to 11.

Well if you can have a 6x6 Springboard then thats 36 apps,

at 11 pages thats 396 apps, plus the 6 at the bottom, so 402 applications if you are stuck at 11 pages,

Hmm, bit limited eh!? :D
