Only backup the playlists

My Mac doesn't have enough space to update all my Ipad with Itunes.

Is it possible to update only the playlists with Itunes ?

If it is, thanks to tell me the way to do it.

Normally the Mac has the master catalogue of songs and playlists. So where are these songs and playlists if they aren't on your Mac?

Apple music reduces the need to download songs and thus reduces space needs.
