Hi

I have got a brand new tv it came with v2.4, so added it to my wireless network and updated to latest version. Setup to sync and stream from a PC and iMac ok. Connected to a HD 720P TV with a HDMI

been messing about tonight, its hardly had any use so far, and it has froze/locked up twice. I was flicking through menus and just froze on the screen. the little white led was still lighting up when I was pressing the remote.

I left it a while but nothing, so pressed menu and down to reset it, it restarted ok. The 2nd time it froze I chose diagnostics and it reported ok

My question is I am very worried with this happening. Is this normal? I am a bit unhappy really. I have read on these forums about various problems but am now worried about mine already.

What do you think I should do? I'm from UK, should I contact support? or just leave it and see how it goes?

Please anyone help me
cheers

Restore it in iTunes first.

Restore in iTunes? sorry dont know what you mean? when I pressed menu and down key there was an option to factory restore on menu, is this option you mean?
Give it a day or two then contact support it could be a lemon.
this is what I am really worried about,Ive hardly stressed it at all yet, am worried that so soon it is freezing :(

Yes, that is the option to restore, however, I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. There's no need to restore if you say that you just got it a week ago. The apple tv will have performance issues if you try to navigate the menus while it's syncing (it will actually cancel the sync if you start to play something, then attempt to sync again after it's finished). I'd recommend checking iTunes the next time it starts lagging to make sure a sync isn't happening and if one is, wait for the sync to finish (or cancel it) and then use the AppleTV. What you've described with the light blinking while clicking down happens to me on both of my AppleTV's (including the one I had replaced) if iTunes is syncing.

If you're seeing this behavior all the time when using it, you may want to call AppleCare and have them replace it.

Thanks should have mentioned that I have manual sync set, but I did have access to a shared library at the time wirelessly from my iMac.

Surely this is not the cause as this is the actual function of the AppleTV?

I have manually synced some movies bit that's it, I was going to have my music using the streamed/shared way.

Bit dissapponted in it freezing twice. This is a device I have bought for easy access for my wife and kids so just want it to work

Had another strange problem tonight. Looking on iTunes for a movie as soon as I went into the movie purchase/rent/trailer screen it kept going black or flickering screen.

It didn't happen on main screen but happened in all iTunes screens!?! Reset, unplugged AppleTV but the same. The settings haven't changed or anything for that matter

anyone have similiar problem? Very confused. TV is fine as normal TV etc ok

anyone?

It's normal for the two Apple TV's I currently own and the one I used to own (sold it). Some here will claim their Apple TVs never freeze, stutter or have to be restarted, but I don't believe it.

Apple is really pushing the Apple TV's hardware to the max.

Were you using the remote app on an iPhone/iPod touch? I find that it will cause a reset every once in awhile. About your only option would be take it to an Apple Store and see if it does it for a genius or call AppleCare. Just to warn you about AppleCare, they don't really have any troubleshooting walkthroughs with the Apple TV. It's usually just a replacement.

I would try the factory restore, then upgrade back to software 3.x. But that's really all you can do. It's a temperamental device, but I love mine.

Whatever you do DO NOT CALL SUPPORT, forget about having a warranty

Your answers lie in the internet

Create a dozen post or so about how unhappy you are and how you can hack your existing mack, mini,pc to do all you like. :p

Done a factory restore and update to v3.01 again. No restrts but had strange prob with screen flickering and White lines flickering when in iTunes store? Was ok in main menu ? TV resolution is ok 720P and connected via HDMI?

If I call support, live in UK will If I get a replacement will it be a brand new one? Don't want a recurb one. Reason I didn't buy one off refurb store was be ause I wanted a new one

It'll likely be a refurbished unit unless you take it back to the store you originally bought it from.

This sounds like network problems to me. What kind of network do you have? Are you sharing your Wi Fi with ordinary internet access, or do you have dual-channel WiFi with one channel dedicated to the ATV? (Recommended).

Any chance you are getting interference from a nearby neighbor's network (apartment/condominium?)

It's looks more like a TV flickering though. I can play YouTube fine, stream stuff when connected fine etc.

My router is on shared g/n setting so I can also use my iPhone and the kids laptop. Nothing was being used at the time of the video though. I could test by plugging in an Ethernet cable if this will be a final test? If it still flickers with an Ethernet test then it can't be network issues can it?

Call apple, that isnt normal. Id say yours is defective out of the box. They will probably send a refurbished unit back to you though. I would politely ask for a gift card or some other compensation for paying for new but getting a refurbished one. Im sure Apple will comply.

did you watch the video? It's really strange, only happens in certain bits of the store. Kids watched a video tonight which was on HDD and played fine. Could it be network? Making the TV picture flicker/disappear/whiteclines?

Called Apple (on all morning) and eventually they agreed to send me a brand new one out. Going to take a while though as have to wait for return docs, send backine now, then wait for new one to be delivered. Will try store on Apple TV as soon as I get it to try though
