Now that's kind of bummer because you won't be able to switch cameras if you are recording in 120fps. Or maybe if you switch to 5x zoom or ultrawide it will fall back to 60fps. But seriously Apple why? It does make the 120fps feature a lot less useful. Perhaps this is another feature reserved, so that they can say "we now supports 120fps on main and ultrawide cameras!" for iPhone 17 Pro and "120fps on all 3 cameras" for 18 Pro?

It's the only camera sensor (Sony IMX903 sensor, 1/1.14" sensor size) that has faster read out speeds to allow for 120 FPS recording.

Why is this surprising? This isn't some software limitation 😅

It’s not surprising. It’s exactly what I expect from Apple. Each year, they upgrade their camera system, but only partially. So that they have something to boast about when they upgrade the full system next year. It’s not like there’s a technical limitation on how many 120fps sensors a device can have, but they just choose to install 1 instead of 3.
