iPod Touch Quick Tip:

If you have forgotten that you have left your iPod Touch in a car in the summer heat, do not fret too hard. Just be very careful.

1) Open the door and wait. The air inside, especially if the windows are rolled up, is very hot. Furnace hot? Not quite, but don't take it lying down. It can reach beyond 140 degrees Farenheit in a car sitting in the sun.

2) DO NOT TOUCH your iPod Touch. The metal back is VERY hot. You will get burned. If you push the sleep-wake button, you may notice that the colors are all wrong. That is because the LCD screen has gone past its temperature point and cannot produce the right colors with the liquid. Turn it off.

3) Grab a heat-resistant object to take the iPod Touch out of the car. Oven gloves are a great example. I used a tin snack wrapper because it was readily available.

4) Place it in the shadows indoors and let it cool. Do not put in the freezer or refrigerator, because the humidity and extreme temperature difference can damage the unit.

5) After about a half hour, your iPod Touch will be all ready to use again.

Good luck, and don't fret!

I really want to see this produced as a 50s-style educational video.

"Uh-oh, looks like Bobby left his iPod in the car again..."

I leave my ipod touch on the floor in my car so that doesn't happen ;)
But great tips :)

If you getting into your car, and its hot, and you have AC, hold it up to the AC vent. This is what I do. My 2gig nano is thin enough to slip between the vents. I just stick it in there for a few minutes and all is good.

Its an old nano, my wife beat the crap out of it before I got it, and I burn the crap out of it daily. Still works fine.

Living here in Arizona where a car can get to 160° F almost every day from May till November we try to remember to take our iPods, kids and pets out of the car every time we get out.:D Since I'm on a MacRumors site, obviously in that order.

Oh ya, sorry, I was not saying just leave it in there, the AC will fix everything. I probably should have tacked onto the beginning, "If you leave it in the car, this has worked for me multiple times."

Ya, if you can take it with you! ;)

"Gee Wally, I've looked everywhere and can't find my Ipod...."
"Golly Beav, maybe you should look in Dad's car..."

This works great on iPhones and on a GPS left on a hot dashboard!
