oops i keep knocking icons off the dock. how do i stop this

Normally if you want to remove something from the dock, you just drag it off, and if vanishes.

Well,,, cuz of my setup at the moment, my desk is my bed,, and my keyboard is on my lap, and my mouse, on a hard mouse mat on my pillow, strange i know,, but im really short for space, and will be building a desk as soon as im mobile,, (broken ankle, fotos inthe pictures forum)

So my problem is if my mouse slips, sometimes, i go and move an icon or 4 off the dock, now its not usually a problem putting them back,,,, i say usually, because sometimes i cant rememver which ones were on.
Is there a way to make them stay on the dock, and not remove them. Im not talking about the keep in dock for when you exit a program, i mean in just normal use,

I know at my college they had this. But I think that was on Jaguar. I think if you make an account with limited access you can do that. What OS are you running?

Its 10.4.1...
It wont be a prob when i get my desk sorted,, just my memory, its going.. lol

you can not have much of a dock and all the programs that are on your dock, put them on your desktop and use expose......

StokeLee, how are you managing to drag multiple apps off the dock at once?

You could create a new user account on your system (works fine in Tiger)

System Preferences > Accounts
You'll need to click the lock and login with admin username/password
Add a new account
Go to Parental Controls for that account
Tick "Finder & System"
Click configure
Untick "Modify the dock" and click ok

Bit of a long winded approach but it might help you.
