ooTunes Radio 2.0.0 has been released. The app is by far superior to any other player out there with these new additions and a stream data base that is built by the user. As long as it is supported the developer will take all requests from anywhere in the world and add your favorite "RADIO" station to app.

This app has really come to life and now allows you to work online with your favorite website while you listen. Visit your social networks and let your friends see what you are listening to.

If you like Simplifiy Media, then it is also included in this app as well. You do have to purchase his ooTunes Server to be able to watch and listen to every other media file you own and that will not fit on your iPhone/Touch. Before you even buy the server, you can test a demo server and also make sure it will connect to your specific system.

This app is a must for any music lover, if you are someone that goes on the road and has a favorite radio station at each destination then book mark it and if its not there, then contact the developer and he will add it as long as it is a supported file. Forgot a TV show or Movie or Song on your computer at home, access it where ever you are and dumb that "I forgot it feeling"

Totally Amazing App and I highly recommend you get the NEW Version just released today!
Recommend that anyone that loves music to at least read the newly updated description at the link below

ooTunes Radio

Enjoy Radio...I DO!

HERE is a copy of his new email release notice:

ooTunes
Woohoo!!!

Version 2.0.0 of the ooTunes Radio app for iPhone/iPod Touch is now available!!!

The free update will show up in the "updates" tab within the blue "App Store" app on your iPhone/iPod Touch. If you didn't buy it yet, Get it in iTunes!

So, what's in this update? Too much to list... it's a huge improvement to stability, usability, appearance and a ton of new features!

The built in list of streams is now over 7000, but if that's not enough, this version adds support for playback of the following (using the greatly improved built-in web browser):

* ScanAmerica
* RadioTime
* Seeqpod
* Icecast
* XM Radio
* Live365
* Reciva
* Shoutcast
* NOAA Weather
* Air Traffic Controllers
* Archive.org
* Any other site with links to a .pls, .m3u or .asx playlist or other linked audio

All these sites and the built in station list means you've got nearly infinite audio at your fingertips. The list of websites will be updated with new interesting sites, as we recieve your suggestions.

In fact, if something DOESN'T play with the browser's "play" button, use the "?!" button to email us the site and we'll make it work if we can!
Here's the list of current Radio Only features (some are new, some have been there all along).

* Search preset stations by genre, country, city/state, station name/call sign or frequency/band
* Automatically resume last station played on start-up (even after a phone call)
* Post what you hear and like on Twitter or Facebook
* Create and organize favorites with custom tags
* Listen to any of over 60,000 live concerts from Archive.org (over 6,500 Grateful Dead concerts alone!)
* View album art and lyrics, or find track more on Last.fm
* Listen to interesting tracks again by searching SeeqPod or YouTube
* Works well on the move (detects changes from wifi-3G-edge and automagically reconnects)
* Store and share your favorite stations
* View recently played and most played streams
* Shake to shuffle streams
* View cumulative listening time and historical data
* Easily report broken radio links for repair
* Purchase your favorite songs by choosing the lowest price through comparison of iTunes, Amazon and other music providers.
* Listen while using the built in web-browser to
o Play your favorite web-based game
o Check web-based email
o Chat on web-based chat rooms
o View current station's web page
o Surf the internet
o Tweet on Twitter

Nearly everything I added or fixed was a suggestion from you, the users, so again, thanks, and keep the feedback coming!

In the future, look for restarting tracks where they last left off, fast-forward and rewind within tracks, and then with iPhone OS 3.0, great enhancements to video playback!

As always...

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK! I think this version is really solid, but there will still be improvements in the future.

If you like it, please TELL YOUR FRIENDS, leave a review in the App Store (or update it if you already left one and this fixes any issues), blog about it, tell your favorite radio stations to promote it!

Thanks for your support!

Steve

My only question is whether anyone outside the UK has been able to get BBC Radio 1-4 to work? It used to, but I recently had to replace my hard drive and I'm not sure now if it's the stream or if I didn't reconfigure things properly. I did download VLC, I don't remember needing anything else.

Hi Lara, Sorry to hear about having to replace the hard drive! You'll need Mplayer too for the BBC streams. I just tested them out in the demo through the ooTunes app and they worked fine. Please contact me if you need any more guidance on it, I'll be happy to help walk you through it.

Can you listen to Sirius? I have a few radio apps but if I can have simplify, sirius, and the other radio stations in one app I'd buy it. Also from reading the website it looks like this will be a good replacement for orb since they don't have a Mac version. How is the video streaming?

I can not answer the Sirius question as I do not have an account. It does work with XM provided you have an account. I can, however answer that watching my videos using the ooTunes Server (sold seperately) I can watch all my music videos and/or tv shows/movies through the included web browser. High streaming will auto transfer you to the browser and I have used it successfully over both Edge and Wifi. I do not have 3G but would assume if it works to both extreme ends then it should work just fine over 3G. Video streaming is high quality and no buffering issues, through my testing.

I will let the developer respond to your Sirius question as I am sure he will see this very soon...the developer is poster wooo

Thanks for the info. The app looks great. Hopefully there is sirius streaming that way I can get rid of orb, simplify, pocket tunes, and the other radio apps I have on my iphone and just use this one app for everything.

I already have....there is no comparison. I can get everything on this app that those offer COMBINED plus my own library for $20 extra dollars which is worth it to me. I am listening to all of my FM favorites, Live365 Favorites and Shoutcast Favorites. I do keep Pandora on my phone but it will always be there. All that software that simplify media requires to access your itunes...GONE. Only one simple brower now and it logs in auto if you set it all up right. I do not pay for radio and never will. A few commercials here and there is nostalgic to me and I like traditional radio which this app has given back to me. I do not even worry about a 3rd party attachment to give me radio, it is no longer needed.

The others do not come close and I have deleted 10 other radio apps out of iTunes for this one and Pandora.

As mentioned, I don't have a Sirius account so I was using a "trial" account when creating the beta. It should work if you use the built in webbrowser to go to the sirius site then tap to do online streaming just as in the regular browser, login, pick a stream to start playing, then use the little "play" button in the webbrowser (the control is hidden by default to make the webview bigger so tap the ... button to show it). If you confirm it's working I can add Sirius to the list of included webpages, and you *might* be able to bookmark the stream like any other stream played from a webpage, not sure how the login requirement will work with that.

Let me know how it goes, and if you have any questions, email me at woo -at- ootunes -dot- com

Has anyone been able to get any of the Best of Sirius channels on XM to work? All the XM channels are working for me but none of the best of Sirius channels.

Ok I have it working. I'm not sure how XM works within the app but with sirius I had to log in and choose the station I wanted but it wouldn't play like it does when you use a computer. I had to hit the ... button and then hit the play button to get the station to play then if I wanted to change stations I had to repeat the process. With XM can you change stations easily or do you have to go through a similar process? It works but it just takes a minute or two to change stations. The quality is great. Once the initial buffering is done the sound doesn't skip or cut out at all.

LSU...Have you tried to save the bookmark or tag it for favorites? Please let us know if that works because if it does you will only have to do it once and then use your bookmarks/tags there after. Use the "White Heart" Icon at the bottom of the player to set Favorites/Tag Folders. Use the ... while on the web to bookmark the station. The same will work for XM stations.

Hope that helps.

Once the stream starts if I hit the heart and save it as a favorite it doesn't add it to the list of favorites.

Very cool that it's working! Not bad for a couple hours of work and a trial account :) Send me an email if you want to help beta test future versions and I can hopefully support it as well as XM is.

As for the favorites... there are 2 lists... favorites (which only works for streams in the built in DB) and bookmarks (which work for webpages, tracks or streams played from the web). So when you "bookmark" a sirius stream, it should end up in the "bookmarks" under the "streams" section NOT in the "favorites". Does that make sense? I'll go ahead and add the sirius page to the list of "Webpages" but keep me posted on any other issues so I can address them in the future!

I sent you an email. I bookmarked the sirius online site but it said it was deleted or moved when I tried to get to it from the bookmark. I'll keep playing with it.

BBC stations working post mplayer install, thanks! :) I think it's still the *only* program that can allow me to listen on the iPhone, at least till BBC works out something for international listeners.

Any tips on getting videos to stream ok over 3G btw? In the settings I've tried not limiting bitrate with a max of 320 but it keeps stopping after a little under a minute. It's perfect on wifi but that's a lot less useful to me unfortunately.

Due to the constraints of the video playback on the current iPhone OS, there's almost nothing that can be done for slower connections.... UNTIL... iPhone OS 3.0! You may have heard they made some live video streaming changes... and those will benefit ooTunes' video streaming... basically it allows the server to transcode a movie (won't work on DRM movies unfortunately) to a lower bitrate and let you play back almost immediately while it converts it.

Video is currently ooTunes' weakpoint but that should all change in the coming months...

I am a 3.0 beta and with ooTunes server and using ooTunes...I stream music videos, TV shows and movie just fine to my iPhone from my iTunes library. No loss of video quality or buffering.

Hope that helps with a preview of the upcoming release of 3.0

To try out the demo server do you just put the special website into safari on the iphone and put in the username and password? Cause I did that but I couldn't get the videos to play.

The demo is just that...a demo. It is not your iTunes. There are no music videos in the demo, only a 9 min. movie clip and a few tv clips. The demo allows you to get a feel for what your iTunes will look like if you purchase.

Hope that helps.

I purchased the media server and the iPhone app but I can't get the movies to stream. Music is a little buggy but the movies will start for about 2 seconds and then do nothing. The transfer speed right now sucks. I checked my connection on my phone and it's fast so where am I screwing up? After $24 I really want this to work. :(
