I have some folders that have like 100 folders within them. I know I can highlight a group and double click one to get them all to open in individual windows. Is there anyway to have them open within the same original window?

Which view do you want this to appear in: Icon, List, Column, or Gallery?

In List view, hold down the OPTION modifier key on your keyboard, then click the little disclosure triangle that's on the left side of a line showing a folder. It should fully expand the folder. At least that's what used to happen in Olden Tymes when large cats roamed the disk/world.

I don't see how any other views would be able to show the contents of multiple folders within a single window. Icon view, in particular, seems especially problematic.

List view is what I want. What you suggested doesn't seem to work. Maybe I'm missing something here. I thought maybe all the folders might need to be selected, but that makes no difference. Also tried without any folders selected. I also tried control, command, shift-option. Nothing modified the behavior.

I’m unaware of any way to do that though I’m curious as to why anyone would want to.
No problem, I just wanted to keep the opening question simple.

I have these folders someone supplied to me that contain hundreds (thousands?) of fonts. They're sorted into four folders alphabetically, so there's an A-D, E-K, etc. The fonts are mixtures of OpenType, TrueType and Postscript Type 1. There's also Font Suitcases, which may be TrueType or Postscript Type 1. Support for Postscript Type 1 is being discontinued, so I'm sorting through the folders trying to weed out the Postscript Type 1 fonts.

I can search by "kind" to find the OpenType and TrueType fonts, but that doesn't resolve the Font Suitcases, which are resolved by looking at what else is in their folder, and the size of the files. Few of the files have extensions. I think many are from OS 9 days.

Understood. But around here simple questions tend to only get you more questions.

I did get chown33’s technique to work on a MBA running Big Sur. Just hold down the Option key while clicking on the arrow thingy to the left of any folder in list view. The problem I had was that it seemed to freeze up the computer while processing the request. I tried it on my photos library, which has thousands of files. After 10 minutes it was still opening folders and I could do nothing. Ended up doing a force shut down and restart to stop the process.

Bravo! That's the way to do it. State your question, stop typing.
I get annoyed by people who post a long backstory before getting to their question, then whine about people responding to something in the backstory. One guy even said, "Look, forget ___". Well then, why did you start with that??

I still can't get that to work. I thought it might be because I was doing it on an external drive folder, but it won't work on any folder. I wonder what it is... maybe something in my finder preferences? I mean, it doesn't matter now since I have the answer, but that's weird.

Select-All and then Command-Right Arrow will expand the top level folders without expanding all the subfolders contained within (as Option-Right Arrow does).
Ha! Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. And Command-Left Arrow closes the folders.

It's hard enough getting answers. Opinions are easy to get ;)

I'm not going to read some long drawn out question, so I don't expect anyone else to either. Sometimes the backstory/details are helpful, but it seems in forums, it's best to keep it simple if you want to get an answer.
