For some reason my applications won't open the files I HAD open when I closed it. Don't recall changing this but for some reason all apps open with a 'blank slate'.
How do I fix this?
Simple 'settings' configuration?

Go to System Preferences - General - 'Recent items'. Please select any one value instead of 'None'.

It already had a '10' in there though. Hmmm.

This is not what that setting is for. What you are looking for is the Resume feature, which is located in the same settings panel. Make sure that “Close windows when quitting an application” is not selected. Also make sure that you do not uncheck “Reopen windows when logging back in” when you attempt to log out.

That did it, thank you. But where is the 'Reopen windows when logging back in' selection? Can't seem to locate that.

If you invoke the Log Out command from the Apple menu (top-left), you'll see the option in the popup.
