Open CL compliant Video Card for 1st Gen Mac Pro?

I have a 1st Gen Mac Pro on which I want to run Final Cut Pro X. According to the Final Cut requirements, the existing 7300GT is not "Open CL compliant" and does not meet the requirements.

They made available a list of video cards, but upon researching it's hard to tell what cards are for PC vs. Mac, let alone which cards will fit a first gen.

The following list of cards are deemed acceptable per the requirements. Can anyone tell me if they know whether the following cards are available for my Mac Pro? And have any recommendations? Would prefer one with Dual DVI out.

You need to look at the discussions about video cards. I think that list are all mac compatible cards.

I recently had my graphics card fail and looked for a FCPX compatible replacement. I found that the only two cards on that list currently in production that you can buy new from apple are the Radeon HD 5770 and the Radeon HD 5870. Dunno if they work in a 1,1. Some other cards are available used.

Many here use more recent PC vintage cards, most of which work with FCPX but need to be flashed to be fully compatible with the mac. There are a number of video card replacement threads that discuss the topic as well as work arounds. Enough to make your head spin. Certainly beyond my capability to summarize, but finding a known compatible new video card without paying through the nose to Apple can be difficult.

Just found an online store called the "Mac Upgrade Store" that will sell a new GeForce 800GT for $290...think I'm going to go for that one. According the site it will fit the 1,1.

5770 is great in my Mac Pro 1,1. The reason I upgraded was for FCPX. Crazy huge improvement over the 7300!

Nice. Where did you get yours? Was it through the Apple Store? I saw the 5770 and 5870 there but the years they gave as a range were early 2009 - mid 2010.

Got mine online from Apple store. Yeah it doesn't say they support the 2006/07 Mac Pros but it works 100% perfect. Honestly like having a new computer when it comes to using FCPX.

I got mine from the Apple store. Apple doesn't want you to upgrade your Mac Pro, they want you to buy a new one.
