Basically I want to use Google maps as I'm much more familiar with how it works and have found this sticking point:

How do I open a contact address in Google maps? It goes to Apple maps now and I don't see a share sheet to get that into Google maps? My contacts are stored in Fruux, not Google.

Open contact address in Google maps?

If you are jailbroken you can use browser changer to open url links in chrome and addresses in Google maps. However I think Google should provide a better fix for this by creating a dedicated contacts app for iOS. Not a sync but a dedicated app for contacts. Allow users to open all handlers and links in Google apps (ie telephone numbers should open in hangouts, addresses should open in Google maps, text messages should open in Google voice or Google hangouts, urls should open in chrome, video calls in hangouts, emails in gmail or inbox, birthdays and dates in Google calendar, and share contacts as vcf files via Google voice or Google hangouts). There should also be a way to export and import all contacts with pictures using a vcf file. It would also be nice if it supported multiple google accounts.

If you DID have your contacts in Google then Google Maps (if you're logged into the same Google account) would find your contacts once you start typing the name in the search box.

You could always to an export/import into Google just to get them there.

That's true. You can search for contacts within the app. This actually works for Google apps accounts now.
