Hello!

- attempting an OCLP install for the first time.
- using OCLP v0.4.10.
- upgrading to Big Sur 11.6.8 > fresh install on an erased 1TB NVMe.
- have downloaded Big Sur onto a USB thumb drive.
- have a Mac Edition GPU installed so I can see the boot picker options.

Question
What drive should Open Core be installed on?
On the USB thumb drive alongside the Big Sur 11.6.8 download?
On the Macintosh HD alongside the OS?
On a partition of the Macintosh HD?
Other?

Thank You!!

You get the most flexible solution if you do not use any of your system disks. You can use any kind of disk. Post in thread 'Help! I've moved Opencore to the wrong drive' I have only used OCLP once (I use a more manual method) but as far as I remember you have to move the Open Core EFI from the thumb drive after a successful installation to the disk of your choice.

Really appreciate the info, paalb... thanks much!
I'm being guided by a Mr. Macintosh YouTube video for installing Big Sur using OCLP.
Your info seemed to confirm I'm doing the right thing.

Where I'm stuck is that I'm not seeing my boot picker and need to. The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is that I haven't disabled SIP, because the video didn't suggest I should. Do you happen to know if I should disable SIP?

I have SIP enabled. I bless my EFI (Open Core) while in recovery mode. When you enter recovery, SIP is disabled automatically. When you reboot into normal mode, SIP is enabled again.

With your help, paalb, and the help of others— including my son, I've gotten to the point where I'm being asked which disk I'd like to install OC on. When all the drives come up in a list they're not named as I named them, so how does one know which one to choose. I want to select my Macintosh HD but can't tell which it is? Do you happen to know? I know it's one of the 1TB disks, so that narrows it down to disk0 or disk4.

You have to open Disk Utility select the disk you want and select Info.
