I am on iOS 12 and cannot find a way to open a files location when searching in the Files app. All I can do is click on a result and it opens it with its relevant app. I want to open the folder that contains the file. Is this possible on iOS 13?

It’s possible to see the location of the file with iOS 12.

Tap and hold the file icon until it seems to lift off the screen, then let go. You’ll get a list of actions above the icon. Press the arrow at the right of those actions, then you’ll see one at the right labelled “Info”. Hit that and it’ll give you some info, including the location of the file.

Not sure on iOS 12 as I never did this but on iOS 13, just tried - if you search for a file it shows all the files that match, not the folder it's in. However, if you 3D Touch it and tap Info - it pulls up an info sheet. Near the bottom it shows "Where". You can tap the link, which is the folder the item is housed in.

Hope that helps.

Nice spot, thank you very much! Just a shame the link isn’t clickable to take you straight to the folder. Any change in iOS 13?

When you tap the link, does it take you to the folder containing the file?

Yes. It's highlighted to show it's a tappable link. Takes me directly to the folder containing the file.
