these are 2 things i want to do

1. disable the chime at startup

2. put a message at the top of the open firmware console to say who the ibook belongs to, ive seen screenshots of it done it is on the top of screen on the first line

i'm not sure about 2 at the moment but here's the deal with 1..

you can't disable the chime completely - it's a logic board confirmation that everything's ok. however, you can 'mute' it for the next reboot by muting system sound before turning off or rebooting.

ive got a related question for u guys. ive been woundering this. alright on my blue/white powermac if i have speakers connected to it the mac tone plays through the speakers instead of the internal. now on my powermac g5 with external speakers connected it still plays the startup tone through the internal speaker. any idea on why?
