Quick search yields nothing on this... Wondering when was this released for OS X? Reference link would be great! Thanks.

OpenGL GPU acceleration on Mac
 
IIRC, the Mac OS has supported hardware accelerated OpenGL since around OS 8.6, if not earlier. It's not really anything new...

Hum I must be thinking of something else in OS X. Thinking more of the Video acceleration api in quicktime / open something.

If you're referring to the hardware assisted H.264 decoding, that is a feature that is new to 10.6, along with support for the OpenCL APi.
