Does anyone else find the "Open in New Tab" functionality screwy in Safari?

1 - On some sites (like eBay) it opens in the current tab as well as a new tab. (This issue existed on iOS 10 as well, but was easier to work around then.)

2 - It takes ages for the option to appear now.

3 - If you drag the link to the tab bar, it overwrites an existing tab rather than creating a new tab.

4 - If you drag it to the right, it opens it in split view - which is cool - but you can only do it once. The second time you do it it overwrites the page you already have open in split view.

It's really annoying.

I either drag the link to the '+' toolbar button, or when I long press a link, a second tap on the screen with another finger brings the menu up quicker.

But I agree, it's annoying!

Ah. I didn’t know you could drag to the +. That’s a big improvement - thanks!

I do do the other finger trick, but that can be a pain in the arse if I forget I’m going to do that and long-tap with my left hand. Then I have to play twister with my fingers to reach the button - and while I’m trying I inveriably move my finger a touch and then I’m into dragging mode and the button disappears. At least now I’ve got somewhere to drag it to.

1. I think this issue is related to the way the website is designed as I find this issue occurs even on Mac.

2. This is very irritating indeed. I sent feedback regarding this at the start of the beta. When Safari is in mobile view (slide over / split view), long press on a link has a much longer delay before the menu pops up. I’m guessing this is due to drag and drop but it is incredibly irritating. I suggest you send feedback regarding this.

Another work around is to long press and release finger as soon as the link expands for drag and drop and the menu will then pop up straight away instead of being delayed.

However that two finger gesture ncrypt mentions is amazing - thanks for sharing that! Why on earth is this not mentioned by Apple and shown in the tips.

(Also long pressing links or attachments in mail app seems to have an even longer delay than Safari.)

3. As others have mentioned if you drag the link to the + it will open in new tab. You can also drag on top of another tab to overright a particular tab.

4. It gets a bit fiddly with Safari split view but you can drag a link press the show all tabs button with another finger and then continue to drag the link to the + button to open in new tab.

Please provide feedback through the app regarding the long delay when long pressing links, especially when in mobile view (slide over / split view).

I cannot get it to work in iOS 10. How exactly do you do that?
I’m on iOS 11, but I had trouble getting it to work. After a bit of practice, I think you have to make sure your fingers are not too far apart - but not right together, and you need to do a firm press rather than a tap - maybe as much as half a second.

I'm finding the two finger tap so unreliable as to be pointless sadly.

80% of the time it does nothing, 10% it opens in the same tab and 10% it opens in a new tab.
