Dear Steve, et al:

Please give App Store users a way to organize their applications within iTunes. Many of us are accumulating apps at a prodigious rate, and it can often be difficult to recall just what the name of that new calculator (the one with a different feature from the other eleven calculators...) was! Currently, when one has a large number of apps, and a single view by which to inspect them, the selection process can be a bit confusing.

Even a simple "Sort apps by category" feature would be appreciated, but if you could also give us the ability to assign our current selection of apps to the desired homescreen from within iTunes - essentially a "playlist" feature for apps - it would be especially nice.

With many sincere thanks,

- M.

I'm right there with ya.

But I hope you're actually sending this letter to Steve, or at the very least to Apple's Feedback page. Just posting it here isn't going to do much good...

We have to send SJ a more comprehensive letter to include - or allow third-party developers to provide - other software improvements that the iPhone needs - besides the background notifications: (stock voice dialing app; video recorder app; stock landscape e-mail/SMS; better camera app that allows digital zoom, filters, contrast; MMS; cut/paste; bluetooth upgrade to allow at least A2DP for stereo headphones, DUN/SPP and OBEX/OPP to allow us to upload iTunes apps/music/videos via BT and send vcards and info to other BT phones; an app that allows themes to be modified; and Flash app!!; street maps; turn-by-turn GPS with voice directions and voice recognition; weekly calendar view; ability to use a different ringtone for unknown/blocked callers).

The inclusion of these software apps/updates will help the iPhone compete more effectively against Android and RIM's new offerings.

Would be nice to have a Spotlight icon on the lock screen, that allowed you to search through Contacts, Texts, Emails, calendar entries etc as well as Apps.

definitely, and even if theres a game section, I think there should be sub categories in that

I think we also need a way to bookmark or fav apps in iTunes that we are interested in, plus an option to notify you when there's a price drop on one of those said apps. Sort of like how you can drag songs you are interested in to a playlist to consider later.

There's just so much coming out I just can't buy everything as they do, and when I can buy something, I've forgotten what was out weeks ago, especially with all the weird names you have to recall just to find them, as said in this thread, because of the limited organization.

Need organization

I'm glad to see this thread. I've been thinking the past few days that I am very frustrated trying to organize the apps on my phone. Would be great to do so in iTunes - sports apps together, health apps, travel, weather, etc. Build the demand. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to add this feature.

Certainly. For those who would do likewise, I've added the Feedback settings I used, below. If Apple sees a large number of requests with the same parameters, perhaps they will consider it more strongly. (All of the additional questions on the Feedback page are user-specific, so quoting them would not be very helpful.)
