On a Mac, I’ll often right click a link and choose to open in a new tab in order to get rid of history so I can mash the back button to get back to where I originally was, usually some main/landing page.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work for Safari for iOS - doing a long press on a link and then choosing open in new tab comes with all the baggage of the parent tab. Is this something that can be configured?

I just tried opening a link in a new tab, and when I swiped right to go back it closed the new tab and went back to the original one. No baggage at all. The same thing happens if I tap the back arrow. Are you seeing something different?

Edit: I did this on my iPad.
