Hey guys,

So currently when I view a .zip file in iMessage I can only view the contents of the zip file when opened. Why can't I send the entire zip into an application like the old days?

Anyone know how to enable this functionality? My app depends on this functionality in iMessage.

Thanks guys!

Ethan

I can't understand: how can you send or receive a zip file in iMessage ?
The same way you can send pictures and pdfs.

As for the OP, File manager apps get the archive and not the contents with the open in menu.. You could try one of those ;)

I can't in iMessage... Only pictures or movies
That's unusual. I've personally sent many pdfs. I can't vouch for zips however.

Edit:
I did some digging and discovered that we can send ANYTHING from word files, zips, music to PLISTS AND KEXTS. Damn!

We used to be able to open a zip inside of iMessage into another app!

Now quicklookpreviewcontroller takes over and just browses the zip! I assume they removed the "open in" functionality in iMessage because QLPreviewController now takes over?

Nope, you can't "share" the ZIP file, only single files inside that archive. :S

Save to Dropbox via the share sheet? Since iOS has no real file system to view or unzip to, this is the only real option I could think of...

I use many file manager apps.. And this is one of them.
File Manager Pro App by Zuhanden GmbH
https://appsto.re/us/kHOrH.i

In this app, assuming you have your files.. Select file(s)-> More->Messages
And you'll see you're able to send any file via iMessage
You can also:
Share mail attachments directly from their preview by hitting the share button
Choose a file anywhere that supports sharing(not Open In), and you'll have Messages as an option.
Hope this helped
