iPhone openbackup didn't backup ****

did the 7.0.6. update last night and went to restore in openbackup and nothing at all backed up. has this worked for anyone? not too upset since I remember most of the tweaks I had but sucks that I have to re-set it up

I know about the other backup tweak but I'm not paying $10 for it

You get what you pay for. I've never even heard of open backup or heard of anyone discuss it on here... And the "other backup tweak" is only $5 not $10... but as I said... you get what you pay for.

Well, actually, MANY of us recommend OpenBackup. It does fetch even commercial DEB's pretty well (see my detailed analysis of its algorithm at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18799825/ ) and is a big help if one doesn't rely entirely on it. (Read: you shouldn't blindly trust it will be able to restore all your settings.)

I read repeated complaints about open backup failures.
I bought PkgBackup years ago and have more than gotten my money's worth (seems like I got it when it was $5)

Honestly, how can one complain about a package that you didn't have to pay for ?

Sounds like perfect advice. I'd advise you to "read" your own post, hehe.

Bottom line is none of the backups make a real good backup. They back up things that aren't meant to be backed up, and cause conflicts when restoring.

It's not like a car where you can pull an engine from one car and put it into another car and connect the oil and gas and things just talk together. There are dependencies that are linked within the OS, and when those dependencies are broken, the OS spends time in the background, and when they can't things don't work right, or you get crashes\time outs without explanation.

What I mean is OpenBackup is for pros and definitely not for newbies. For me, it's of tremendous help as it does save me a lot of manual work (DEB fetching, particularly those of paid-for ones, which aren't easy to fetch manually). Of course I don't use its restore function as I do it manually.

Ive tried pkgbackup several times on several devices and several ios versions without success. each time, something goes wrong and I end up doing it all manually. Very disappointing.

That's unfortunate.
I have used PkgBackup dozens of times, on multiple devices and multiple firmware and had nearly flawless results.

Of course it cannot add back any .debs that you manually installed, but then it provides a report on which packages were restored and which have not been restored.

I used openbackup the other day after upgrading to 7.0.6 and had no issues. It put all my tweaks and settings the way it was. However, my wife tried the same thing on hers and it didn't work. Seems kind of random.

I wouldn't say it's for the pros only, that's a bit of a stretch.

I used to dread restoring because I would have to reinstall each tweak and then respiring after each. With the current version of Cydia, the queue functionality actually works, and works well. So I go in, select all 40 or so of my tweaks, queue them, and then in one respring\reboot, all are installed and functioning.

Saves about 30-60 minutes in 40 resprings\reboots on the old method vs 1 respring\reboot on the new. One of the reasons I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of restore.

it's located in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/OpenBackupFiles

without those backup files, pressing restore will do nothing (if you started new and didn't restore from backup)

tried that and got nothing after the files were extracted. it's back to the way it was before the update, I deleted openbackup.

It didn't work for me the other week either. Or last year when I tried it on iOS 6. I was prepared, though, and had a screenshot of my installed tweaks so setting up my phone wasn't too bad.
