Hi, have tried to install OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.4 onto my MacPro 5,1:
The aim was to upgrade to O/S Monterey, and enable GPU boot selection on an unflashed, more modern AMD Radeon 7100WX 8Gb card
2 x 3.46Ghz 6 Core Intel Xeon Processor and 64Gb RAM
Firmware Update Boot ROM Vsn: 144.0.0.0.0
Metal Supported EFI Driver Vsn: 01.00.624
Flashed AMD Radeon R9 280X 3Gb installed, so I can reboot to system of choice

After SIP Disable, and safe mode restart, using clean system (No none Apple Apps) Samsung 250 Gb ssd, partitioned into 2, Sierra 10.12 (Mac OS Extended Journaled) / Mojave 10.14.6 (APFS), installed OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.4 onto Mojave partition

OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.4 install screen shows: Model: MacPro 5,1, however, 'Post Install Root Patch' is strangely greyed out, whereas on various videos this is displayed as white text on black box, as all other options. Nevertheless, I reasoned that my MacPro 5,1 does not require these Patches as it is Metal enabled and upgraded to Firmware 144.0.0.0.0.

Attempted to create Sandisk USB 32Mb installer with O/S Monterey 17.3.3 in Application folder of Mojave partition, after Monterey was installed this error box appeared:

OpenCore Installer Disk Error May'22.png

Tried process again, same error box. Tried with HP USB 32Mb, even downgrading to OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.3, again same results.

Tried process again with a different Mac: MacBookPro 9,2 Running Mojave 10.4.16
2.5Ghz Intel Core i5 Processor and 8Gb RAM
Metal Supported feature set mac OS GPUFamily1 v4
Intel Graphics 4000 1536Mb

SIP Disabled, safe mode restart, using clean system (No none Apple Apps) Crucial 500 Gb ssd, partitioned into 2, Mojave 10.14.6 (APFS)/ Catalina 10.15.4 (APFS), installed OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.4 onto Mojave partition with O/S Monterey 17.3.3 in Application folder of Mojave partition. But again 'Post Install Root Patch' is greyed out:

Anyway, I installed the OpenCore app onto my Mojave ssd partition, then also inserted freshly erased HP USB 32MB installer in case of any issues, this time I am informed that all is well, so I then reboot, The boot selector screen shows the Mojave/Catalina ssd, OpenCore EFI and the USB install drive. However when I select the EFI Boot, a Prohibitory Disk Black Access Screen appears (White Circle with line through it), and the MacBook Pro powers down.

Several reboots later reveal all drives have the Prohibitory Disk Black Access Screen, and the MacBook Pro powers down.
Real issues installing OpenCore on 2 different Mac Models, Am I missing something?

Please help,

OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.5 successfully installed on MacPro 5,1

Hi, many thanks for the advice, and following your instructions have managed to install OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.5>O/S Monterey 12.4 onto my MacPro 5,1:

The aim was to upgrade to O/S Monterey, and enable GPU boot selection on an unflashed, more modern AMD Radeon 7100WX 8Gb card2 x 3.46Ghz 6 Core Intel Xeon Processor and 64Gb RAM
Firmware Update Boot ROM Vsn: 144.0.0.0.0
Metal Supported EFI Driver Vsn: 01.00.624
Flashed AMD Radeon R9 280X 3Gb installed, so I can reboot to system of choice

So, now OpenCore Monterey ssd installed, great acceleration, boot screen shows all loadable disks, and can select EFI Boot-loader, then Monterey without USB.

Swapping GPUs: So the flashed AMD Radeon R9 280X 3Gb installed on MacPro 5,1, enabled reboot to system of choice, and after successful install OpenCore Legacy Patcher 4.4 onto Monetery ssd. Next I tried to swap flashed R9 280X, with a more modern unflashed AMD Radeon 7100WX 8Gb. However, upon restart, and resetting NVRAM 3 times, there is still no boot screen using the 7100WX. I read somewhere that once OpenCore was installed on the Mac Pro 5,1, with the OpenCore>Monterey ssd is still on board, PC unflashed cards would show a Boot-loader screen - if selected in OpenCore Legacy Patcher settings. Have I missed something again?

SIP Enable/Disable: Can the SIP be changed in OpenCore App Settings, and applied universally to the MacPro 5,1? Does this need a restart to take effect, will that method only apply to OpenCore>Monterey ssd? What about non-OpenCore ssds on board running legacy software, do they need traditional restart in Recovery/Terminal/Enable/Disable SIP/Restart?

On that note, is it acceptable to have an OpenCore>Monterey ssd alongside a non-OpenCore ssd that runs legacy software smoothly (High Sierra/Mojave) in the MacPro 5,1. Then not select the EFI Boot-loader at startup but a standard High Sierra, or Mojave partition? Would a non-OpenCore High Sierra/Mojave ssd benefit from any speed increases from OpenCore on the MacPro 5,1. If one uses this selection process, could mixing OpenCore and standard legacy O/S possibly corrupt the legacy High Sierra/Mojave ssd, or even the MacPro 5,1 hardware?

certainly a journey, but with your advice, I might be able to get there, again thanks for all help so far,

regards, John
