I am running a Dosdude patched Catalina OS on a 12 core 2.93 5,1 Mac Pro.. would like to upgrade the OS to Big Sur. But I have been unable to get confirmation that Opencore Legacy patcher does a clean upgrade for all this computer's functions, as the info available from Dortania is focussed too much on complex post install instructions for Monterey. Does the latest version of OCLP 0.4.5, plus their post install root patcher, which is now automated, do a complete upgrade of Big Sur.. or are there more issues to address post install?

Secondly, is it possible to switch back to an internal backup copy of Catalina as the boot drive, without first uninstalling the Opencore Legacy patcher on the Big Sur internal boot drive? The info at Dortania states this is impossible without first uninstalling Opencore patcher. That would imply disabling the Big Sur drive completely. And I am wondering if anyone's actually done this to test if their backup OS is still available as a boot choice on a hold Option key restart? I couldn't find anything on the internet about it.

If you do an upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur, the whole System volume is replaced in addition to all the system files the Data volume. This should remove all previous patches.
But I have not tried this since all my legacy systems run the last supported macOS (High Sierra on an old Air, Catalina on a mini.) My main platforms are all current. I am glad not to have to fuss any longer.

i’m actually having installation problems. I’m not even sure which version of OCL I should use. I’m running Catalina on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro, and I have downloaded the installer for Monterey, download it “and build it onto the USB drive, I put it in the EFI booth partition, as I think that’s the only way to put it. I then start up using the install Mac OS Monterey icon, and I get an error, a circle with a line through it talking something about support.apple.com/startup or something? I can’t do screenshot because I’m blind, and it was bad enough having to get somebody to read the stuff to me. And then after that happens, the computer turns off. It doesn’t turn off right away, it turns off maybe 15 to 20 seconds after. Also, selecting to boot from the EFI partition just brings me back to my macOS Catalina file vault protected logon screen. Is there something else I have to do? I’m using 0.4.3, but even with 0.4.5 I got the same issue. At least I think I did anyway, I definitely didn’t get in the installation progress. I thought 0.4.5 wouldn’t work because it said something about disabling on route installations under Catalina or something. Sorry for the long reply but I am now even more confused having written this post. :)

I've been trying for some time to upgrade to Big Sur on my Mac Pros (2009 & 2010).They are currently running Catalina which has been very solid but won't run current versions of Logic Pro now. I keep coming up to the same brick wall (on 4 separate machines) - The opencore legacy patcher USB installer won't mount because it's not 'blessed'. I've tried the clover configurator which helps force the machine into recovery mode but doesn't solve the blessing issue. Can anyone help?

Personally I would do a clean install of Monterey on separate volume. Then I would use migration assistant to move my data to the new drive. This keeps your old system intact (working) and gives you a new one.

I just used the Legacy patcher to do a clean install of Monterey onto 2 Mac Pro 3,1s that I am getting rid of.
