You can test this OpenCore package. Just mount your EFI partition and copy this folder. On the first boot hold the option key to select the boot loader. On the next boot it will boot to OpenCore automatically. If you need to disable it issue NVRAM/PRAM reset. Tested on MacBook Pro 11,2 with System Firmware Version: 429.0.0.0.0

@startergo,
I have a 2011 17" MBP 8,3, currently on High Sierra. I assume there is several items in the OC section of the EFI (including the config.plist) that will need to change for my MBP. Does the OC Guide address these items specifically for Mac laptops?

Hi, what is this for actually ? As far as I know, Open Core is bootloader for hackintosh PC's to be able to boot Mac Os. Why would I need it on regular Mac (Macbook Pro 11,4)? Thanks for explanation.

I personally use it to make external drives appear as internal. But there are many other applications. For instance there are kexts to fix hibernation (I know there is a problem with certain MBP and non Apple sled's), disabling the dedicated GPU or anything else "restricted" by Apple. For unsupported MBP it is serving even better purpose as you can boot unsupported Mac OS's without patching the operating system. My MBP's are 11,2 ; 11,3 and 15,1 and are all still supported, but still I find it useful even only for selecting another OS from the boot screen. In this case it operates as a rEFInd bootloader. By the way OpenCore is different in respect to Clover for example, because it was designed for hacks and macs, whereas Clover is designed for hacks only.

Same Macbook Pro here. Could you install it?
