Ok so I’ve installed opencore onto my NVME drive on my 5,1 - I’ve got the bootpicker up and everything is working seemingly as it should. Can I add normal installs of macOS into the boot picker? When I install my other drives into the machine it reverts to booting from another non-opencore partition, and won’t give me to option to boot from the NVME in the OS. Also, as I’ve got a stock 580, I don’t get traditional boot screens. Is there a way to set NVME as default?

Probably been asked before, but so much searching usually reveals initial setup guides!

Thanks

Other bootable drives should be automatically detected by the boot picker. But only if opencore is initialized first. Did you bless the EFI partition that contains opencore? Try booting into recovery before adding any other drives and re-bless the opencore EFI partition.

The reason the initial guide comes up so much is because it contains the instruction step to bless the EFI partition containing opencore. Reaccomplishing that step usually solves most issues where opencore does not boot up first.

Hey Marzer,

I did bless the OpenCore EFI Partition in recovery, which meant I could boot with no issues to the OpenCore picker with only the NVME drive in, but as soon as I added other drives with older installs the Mac was default booting to them first. I ended up digging out a GT120 to get apple boot screens, selecting the NVME as the main boot drive from apples boot picker, which then runs into the OpenCore picker which shows all the partitions. I'm sure there has to be a way to set the NVME as default without having to put in the GT120?

You have a similar setup like mine—5,1 cMP, RX580, NVME Samsung in PCIE slot 1 (my RX580 is in slot 2). I have the opencore installed on an SSD that is not the bootable drive. This way if I change the drive, I still have the OC installed.

What is your macOS you have installed?

ahhhh good idea - I should do the same thing and install open core onto what ever drive I have in bay 1. Currently have the rx580 in slot 1 and a Auros x2 in slot 2.

I'm running Big Sur right now, and so far so good - should see me out for a good time longer
